Great spot near Pooley Bridge & Ullswater. Awesome views, friendly owners, good value. Clean loos, but no showers & sometimes no loo paper. Can be noisy, some pitches are sloping.

Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Really friendly bloke who runs the site. In a brilliant location with a great view of the lake and hills. 2 mins walk to the lake or 5 mins through the woodland trail to Pooley Bridge. Definitely back next year. Lots of room for the kids to get up to kid things

Liked We stumbled across the campsite buy driving past. The lovely lady let us stay the night and managed to get us in for the second night.
From then we have been as many times we could during the school holidays
It a very friendly site where my little lad and 2 dogs have had so much fun making friends.
Its only 1 road away from the water, you wake up to stunning views. Just a 10mins walk into the little village with stunning views and lovely pubs/ food
If your lucky enough you get one or two flighter jets going over camp which is mint to see and the sound that they make is amazing

Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Great location if you want to paddleboard etc on the lake. It's literally accessible from a small beach next to site. 4 porta loos on site. Quite uneven pitches. All about the location here not facilities

Stunning views, ruined by filthy loos & poor pitches won’t be back 😆
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Scenic view of the lake
Disliked Beautiful views of the lake, but that’s about where the positives ended. We were told to pitch on a patch of overgrown grass, which was on a hill and made life with kids pretty tricky. Way too many insects, and the toilets were an absolute disgrace. Such a shame, because the setting itself could be amazing with better upkeep.

From the manager: sorry to say but you do not get told where to pitch you are told to pick somewhere we do say when full to go through second but not to high as bits to steep the toilets are cleaned regularly they are stocked with toilet rolls and hand sanitizer

Beautiful lake view, steep incline, long wet grass, unfriendly owner.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Waterfoot car park campsite is a campsite next to a main road and car park at the northern part of Ullswater. There are 5 portaloos and large bins.
Disliked It has a steep incline which can make pitching up and sitting/sleeping difficult. The grass was also very long, which made driving and walking around the site difficult and slippy. Before arriving at the site, I had 4 missed calls in quick succession at around 3pm from the owner asking when I was coming to the site. I explained we were out hiking so would get there between 7 and 8pm. He then rang again at 7pm (I'm not sure why) and we turned up at 7:30pm approximately. When I pulled up, there was a tent "check in" area on the left. The owner walked to the car and immediately appeared disgruntled and slightly intimidating. He asked if we had a booking and when I explained we'd booked through Pitchup he challenged us. I explained he'd called us multiple times earlier that day and he then told us we'd have to pay the outstanding charge with cash. Unfortunately, I had to offer bank transfer as I didn't realise the site was cash only. This was my mistake. He then told us we can find a pitch and park anywhere we like. The campsite was very busy and noisy, and tents were packed very close together. I drove to a less busy area towards the top of the field and parked up. This was on a steep incline and the grass was very long and wet. The owner drove at speed in a 4x4 truck up to us with his headlights on and shouted out of his window that we couldn't park there, and then told us to park in the busier area. He sat in his car watching me reverse hill-start (poorly) out of my parking position and move somewhere busier. If it wasn't for feeling intimidated and being told to park "anywhere" before re-direction, this little pop-up site would be quite a nice place to stop off, especially if enjoying Pooley Bridge nearby. The campsite rules state both the following "dogs allowed all year" and "dogs not allowed". For anyone with a dog, I'd recommend checking first.

From the manager: the pitch airea that you chose was not to b pitch on as everone that went to that area had been asked to stay low down as field wasnt suitable to go to high therefore were asked to move down but with the car he stay by to make sure didnt get stuck being full everyone is asked if booked on for your info dogs are allowed its the same when it comes to paying balance we are told it dose not say cash but if read properly it clearly says cash
