General

  • Peaceful touring site on a farm in Cumbria's Eden Valley
  • A 20-minute drive from Penrith and with easy access to the M6
  • Between the Lake District National Park and North Pennines

It’s cleverly named, Cumbria’s Eden Valley – in a special spot just between the Lake District National Park to the west and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east. It’s got mountains and moors to ramble on, and easy access to the M6 too (which, while not necessarily boosting the scenery factor, does make life much easier for getting in and out).

Equally well named is Eden Valley Holidays, a peaceful site surrounded by greenery around 20 minutes’ drive from Penrith. And in an extra bonus for this particular location, it’s known to be a rain shadow area – so it’s notably less damp than some of its neighbours.

Sound like quite the place for a peaceful break? Quite right. There’s no great stack of facilities to get in the way of the quiet rural vibe, but all the essentials are in place: site-wide free wifi, a chemical toilet disposal point, a wash house with toilets and free gas-powered hot showers (most welcome after days of outdoorsy antics nearby). Dogs are welcome to join you on your jaunt, but they’ll need to be well behaved and promise not to harass any farm animals.

The folk that run the place are experienced caravanners themselves, so they’re well aware of the little touches that can boost a break – that means they’re the kind of people that don’t just mow the grass on site but also gather it up and cart it off so it doesn’t get trampled into your flooring. Sometimes, it’s all about those little things, eh…

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Single-sex bookings of 2 or more people (excluding couples) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We loved this site. We arrived 3 days early as we had been unhappy at our previous stop. We were met by the friendly helpful owners and sited on a lovely spacious pitch. The site was well maintained, the facilities kept clean and warm.
The whole place felt peaceful and safe in these difficult times. We would highly recommend this place and hope to return.

From the manager...

Thank you for this review, and I'm glad you appreciated the welcome. I feel bound to say that we have 4 showers, which are pointed out to every camper on arrival, and are clearly marked on the leaflet which we give you. I'm not clear how that escaped your notice. And we do know about the wifi: a booster is on order.

Thank you for this kind review. I fear that there's nothing we can do about the phone signal other than encouraging people to use wi-fi calling.

The friendly and informed Groundsman/owner. The lovely clean farmhouse facilities. Also the guildlines for a peaceful night and the price that comes with it all. - Good value.

    Disliked:

As I become more experienced at the camping lifestyle, I'm sure I'll be more prepared and self sufficient but I do wish that these places would account for novice campers and/or people that do not want/ have an electric hook up. It wouldn't be that costly to have a little 'tuck shop' - selling ready to eat locally sourced fruit, veg, a bag of nuts, maybe even some cheese scones available. Also a boiling hot water urn would have gone a long way. When there are no walking distance village shops about, these touches would make all the difference and I would pay a pound or so more for them. Not a dislike more a suggestion.

From the manager...

Thank you for this supportive review. We do usually have a Common Room available, where people can make tea and coffee. Unfortunately, we have had to keep it closed this year because of COVID restrictions. We have the space to extend our facilities and hope to do this next year.
