Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice fishing lakes (I don’t fish but had a walk around) Actual pitches well maintained Had a warm welcome off the owner who showed me around the campsite and let me choose my pitch

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities were dirty - dirt and dead flies all over sinks, soiled toilet seats and dirty toilet brushes left on the floor No washing facilities for pots and pans Campsite backs on to noisy road, luckily I had a good sleep but others may not!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really friendly and relaxed. Beautiful surroundings and really pleasant fellow campers. The gent who met me and gave me the tour was brilliant and super patient despite me battling traffic and turning up with seconds to spare for the cut off time to check in. I’ll be recommending this one personally to my fishing friends too as the on site angling looks awesome Also really handy for Chester. 8 min drive straight into city centre on the main road passing the site.

Disliked: Nothing really. There’s no electric pitches but that’s not a bad thing for me, but may be for some. Some my find the main road disturbing if they are light sleepers but I probably had the best nights camping sleep I’ve had all year. Gets you back to nature perfectly…

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Big open space with plenty of room for camping in our tent. Clean facilities for showers and toilets. Not very busy. Good walk around the fishing lakes.

Disliked: Couldn't find a good place to wash up after cooking. Lots of traffic from nearby road, was noisy through the night.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great campsite with fishing lakes. Friendly approachable staff always willing to help. I’ve seen a few reviews dismissing the toilet block and showers - for us it was more than adequate and kept clean. It is camping after all and not a five star hotel. Great fishing - lots of large carp to be caught on simple methods. Note you have to finish fishing and be off the lakes by 18:00.

Disliked: Make sure to pitch away from the road side of the field - the A road can be a little loud with busy traffic until late at night and again early in the morning. Shame the on-site cafe is no longer open

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The site is only really suitable for anglers. Nice walk around the ponds. Friendly staff.

Disliked: Facilities are extremely basic and poorly maintained. No privacy in the female showers aside from a flimsy and poorly fitting shower curtain. Nowhere to sit to help get dressed, and not clean. Male showers no curtain at all. Really poor for the price, we’ve been in much better sites charging the same.

Local attractions

Tarvin Sands has heaps of room on site to wander around, picnic in and wildlife watch, but if you're here to also see a bit of Cheshire and the northwest, you'll find it's in handy locale for getting out and about. Liverpool, Manchester and north Wales are all within a short drive. It's a smashing site for kids too, as it's close to famed family attractions like Chester Zoo as well as the kid-friendly fare in nearby Chester: try the Chester ghost hunter trail, the miniature railway at Grosvenor Park and the pools and flumes at Northgate Arena. The Tarvin Sands team also reckons you should take a look at Blakemere Craft village, the farm animals, play areas and tasty treats of Chester's The Ice Cream Farm, and family adventure play park the Crocky Trail.
