Set up at a South Yorkshire spot that’s equally well placed for rural pursuits and city times – Hangram Lane Farm Campsite has the Peak District less than a mile away to the west and the centre of Sheffield about four miles away to the east. This handy location means that you can mix and match days of outdoor pursuits, scenery spotting and urban wanders as you fancy – make a plan, leave it up to the weather or just see how you feel each day and then work it all out as you go. Top Peak District spots like Stanage Edge and Burbage South Edge are within a 10-minute drive, as is the lovely outdoor pool in Hathersage for a dip after your walk or climb. There are several walking trails to follow nearby if you’d like to get a taste of the local area, and you can walk to pubs and cafés in about 10-20 minutes if you’d rather stick to shorter strolls. Dining in style is perfectly possible on your own pitch too – and that’s because this site is part of a fourth-generation family-run livestock farm that has its own farm shop. Pick up meat, bread, dairy produce, fruit and veg from the shop and get set for a picnic with a view (this being a spot that has a fine backdrop of the pretty Mayfield Valley). Barbecues are very much allowed too, and you can buy charcoal and wood on site to save you lugging it along with you. Grass pitches here are simple in style but have access to portable toilets and a washing-up area with cold water.
