  • Well-maintained and peaceful campsite on a South Yorkshire farm
  • Yorkshire Wildlife Park 15 minutes’ drive; Messingham Zoo half an hour
  • Grass pitches; wildlife on site; fishing and golf 20 minutes’ drive
When what you want is a bit of peace on a rural South Yorkshire hideaway, you’re covered with a stay at Pond Farm Campsite, a couple of minutes’ drive outside the rural village of Graizelound and 25 minutes from the shops, restaurants, racecourse and cinema of lively Doncaster. As you’ve probably guessed from the name, the pitches are on a working farm, and there are gorgeous countryside views to take in wherever you look. Keep your eyes peeled when on site for local wildlife too, including brown hares in spring, elusive deer and birds of prey. Dogs are welcomed here, so bring them along to share in your ambles along quiet lanes bordering the River Trent straight from the pitches. Simple and well-maintained facilities on the spacious and level camping field include a dedicated waste-removal area, drinking water and a no-frills loo. Barbecues are permitted on site, and you can buy grilling supplies from the convenience store in nearby Haxey (five minutes).

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Pond farm is excellent, the owners are very friendly, and will answer any questions you have, the pitches are large, there is plenty of room for kids to play and it has a swing, slide and climbing frame. We will definatly come and stay again.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Big, flat field with decent facilities although like others have said, only one male and one female toilet. The washing up sink had hot water 'on tap'. Easy to find with lots of drinking water taps dotted about the site. On the cheaper side so maybe that balances the smaller number of WCs. The kids enjoyed having the small play area to enjoy.

Disliked It may have been my pitch choice, or from a lack of rain recently, but the ground was super hard. It's a good job I had a heavy duty pitching hammer and some spare pegs so I could swap out the ones that ended up bent. I'd recommend being prepared if that's a regular occurrence here. Whilst there were lots of signs asking for dog owners to clean up after their pet, I only realised after we'd pitched that at least one owner hadn't bothered near to us and the filled poop bag was still there next morning.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Love this campsite so relaxing, the owners are so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble.
We spend most of our summer here as we really enjoy it.
Night time is so quiet you will get a good night sleep
Showers and toilets are really clean, dog friendly, small play area for kids, and plenty of space for them to play.
Hens produce fresh eggs daily and the site is well maintained. Would highly recommend this site for couples and families. Shops and pubs 5 mins drive either direction.
Karen&Gary very happy campers :)

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The relaxed atmosphere. But not too relaxed that you couldn't make noise. It was perfect to enjoy yourself.
Children's play area was a good bonus, means we will be back with our children.
Toilet and showers where clean.
Level pitches. Big area enough for children to enjoy themselves

Disliked The pre pay electricity is a bit of a faff about, but some campsites do have this so it isn't no big deal breaker. The staff was helpful and there to help and welcome right away with set up of the electricity

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely spacious site nice clean toilet and shower facilities. Small park for children to play. Owner did a free bbq that guests were invited too

Disliked The family that run the site are very friendly but what I did not like was the children of the family coming into my tent asking for drinks and food. Taking my child’s toys and shoving my child about. I appreciate that I’m on a family site but my tent is my personal space and I felt like I couldn’t relax properly

From the manager: Thankyou for your review but can I ask why you didn’t make some aware of the issues and save them for a review before letting anyone know? Also can you prove it was a child who belong to us as there were a lot of kids on the site that day? We are a family run site and all the kids on site have been told about this issue etc and we have long standing visitors who didn’t see anything that you have said. We will take this on board for future

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Really quiet and peaceful everyone staying there was polite and talkative 100% would stay again, owners of the campsite were amazing came and spoke to us when first pitching up and explaining where everything was and where to go if we needed anything. Overall a really good campsite even good if just stopping by for a night and pitch sizes were not a problem.

Local attractions

Days out with the kids will probably include Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes’ drive), where you can take walking safaris through a reserve that’s home to big cats, zebras and giraffes, while younger children will adore the cheeky meerkats, wallabies and ostriches at Messingham Zoo (half an hour). Further afield, there are sharks and rays to admire at The Deep (50 minutes). There’s plenty to keep you all active and entertained in the fresh air too, with a couple of golf courses and fishing lakes being within 20 minutes’ drive, and track days at Blyton Park Race Track (25 minutes) to keep petrol heads happy. Hit a rainy day? Head for Doncaster (25 minutes), where there’s a cinema, vintage planes in the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum and a heady mix of heritage steam trains and contemporary art at the futuristic Danum Gallery, Library and Museum. Weather cleared up again? Back a winner at Doncaster Racecourse, host of the St Leger Festival in September and with racing all year round.
