  • Peaceful adults-only site on 17 rural acres, 15 minutes from Doncaster
  • Within an hour of York, the east coast and Peak District National Park
  • Well-stocked fishing lake plus spotless modern amenities
A chilled-out day of fishing, surrounded by 17 acres of woods and grassland for guaranteed peace and quiet while you’re at it: it doesn’t come much better than this… Well… unless you could stretch that serene vibe out by staying there overnight and coming back for a bit more tomorrow. And indeed you can at South Yorkshire site Beech Tree Lakes, where the pitches are handily placed a mere short saunter from the water’s edge – how’s that for easy access to a day (or preferably a few) of fishing? It’s unlikely that you’ve come here in search of noisy parties and non-stop entertainment, so the family-run site here has been kept accordingly low-key on the facilities front: free wifi, electric hook-ups and a toilet/shower block that’s reserved for overnight guests (with keys given out upon arrival to ensure no incursions by other passers by). Should you require a break from the lakeside action, this handy Hatfield Woodhouse location is well placed for easy comings and goings, with several main roads and motorways in the vicinity. Any requirements for urban amenities can be sorted in Doncaster, 15 minutes' drive away and your nearest hub for shops, restaurants and the like.

Local attractions

The fishing’s the main thing here, but it’s far from the only thing… you could easily fill many a day touring the surrounds too. If you want that nature hit with a bit more activity, you might like to head west for an hour or so to hike or bike in the Peak District National Park, or plot a course east to hit the coast at Cleethorpes in roughly the same length of time. Rather watch other folks doing all the energetic things? (Fair enough, you’re on hols…) The famed Doncaster Racecourse is 20 minutes away; if there’s nothing on there, check out the course at York (50 minutes away) instead. York’s worth a visit even if you’re not into the horses: the minster, the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre are among the reasons to visit, and the historic centre is fab for an amble. Guests with an eye for all things that go may want to take a trip into Doncaster to see a splendid collection of historic planes at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum (20 minutes) or book ahead to get up close to the groundbreaking Vulcan that resides at the National Aviation Academy (10 minutes). If you prefer your attractions living and breathing, hit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) instead.
