Liked: This was our third time at Beech Tree Lakes, and we will return! Very welcoming reception, looked-after territory, immaculate showers and toilets, wildlife, peace and tranquillity, helpful and friendly owners and a small pub to have some drinks after a wonderful day. Fish greeted me every time I came to the ponds, and Canadian geese accompanied by other wader birds were giving performances every evening too :) Beautiful place to relax after our working week.

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: The fella was so miserable, very inviting and didn’t feel welcome. Didn’t like the fact you had to buy thier own pellets for fishing along side a load of other rules. No one showed us round. We had to go home because my mother in law had been taken ill in hospital and there was no empathy. No offer of a refund - we will not be returning!

Liked: Absolutely fantastic site.very clean and well kept. You couldn’t see it from the main road very well hidden. Very sheltered with all the trees . The showers and toilets immaculate. We also used the washing up room which was immaculate too. Very relaxing few days. All look into the lakes.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked: Pitches were firm for van with grass for awning. Toilets and washing facilities were great. AJ's bar was good and well priced. Fishing was excellent, over 100 fish caught WOW! Resident campers were all very friendly, a special thank you to Chris and his wife Chris who went the extra mile to help us after forgetting to take our hook up cable. Chris drove me 20 minutes away to buy one.......a very genuine gentleman. The site is a very busy one with people coming and going until after 8pm but this did not worry us, everyone is very respectfull of noise. No screaming kids, adult only site....perfect. Will definately go again 100% All in all, a great site but a couple of points below would make it much better.

Disliked: There is a little bit of redundant equipment around the dog walking area which does not do the site any favours. There are a couple of vans that are a bit shabby and covered in green moss on the far side of one of the lakes that are a bit of an eyesore. There is one van with several dogs that make a racket at feeding time like a dog kennel and whenever anyone walks past when walking their dog, which is quite frequent in our case. We love dogs but felt this was a little OTT, and some residents mentioned they were not happy either. Some of the fishing pegs are in need of updating to proper platforms.

Local attractions

The fishing’s the main thing here, but it’s far from the only thing… you could easily fill many a day touring the surrounds too. If you want that nature hit with a bit more activity, you might like to head west for an hour or so to hike or bike in the Peak District National Park, or plot a course east to hit the coast at Cleethorpes in roughly the same length of time. Rather watch other folks doing all the energetic things? (Fair enough, you’re on hols…) The famed Doncaster Racecourse is 20 minutes away; if there’s nothing on there, check out the course at York (50 minutes away) instead. York’s worth a visit even if you’re not into the horses: the minster, the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre are among the reasons to visit, and the historic centre is fab for an amble. Guests with an eye for all things that go may want to take a trip into Doncaster to see a splendid collection of historic planes at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum (20 minutes) or book ahead to get up close to the groundbreaking Vulcan that resides at the National Aviation Academy (10 minutes). If you prefer your attractions living and breathing, hit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park (15 minutes) instead.
