Park setting

  • Friendly well-maintained park on the banks of Wooler Water
  • Lounge bar, restaurant and entertainment in peak season
  • A 10-minute walk to the medieval market town of Wooler
Avoid the hordes crawling to the south-west coast and breeze your way to a little gem on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… Riverside Country Park is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, splashing about in the indoor swimming pool, baiting rods for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a shop, launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Not a lot, pitches to small & to close together, toilets dry human crows on the wall never cleaned off, chemical disposal point disgusting just like an open drain with no lid, dirty wet toilet paper on the surrounding concrete area, given discount food vouchers for the clubhouse for breakfast when no food was served until 5pm.

Disliked: A lot

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Decent sized flat pitches. Clean site river running through middle. Bar, restaurant, pool and games room complex over the road. Plus milk bar / ice cream parlour. Walking distance to Wooler and 10-15 minutes with bus station to Alnwick and Berwick. Toilets and showers clean and hot.

Disliked: Our pitch was fine but for the fact that the caravan next to us (think it was static) was parked the wrong way round and pitched to the left, so was very close to us we thought they should have been parked the other way for safety reasons. Think it was the only one parked that way

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good location to quickly access nice walks on the Cheviots and right by the road network to visit other sites like Alnwick castle etc. Lovely stream running alongside the site.

Disliked: The touring pitches are quite close together and a slight element of chav culture on the touring area but not so much that it would put me off going there again.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely lovely site. Very well kept and maintained. Services well thought out and our touring pitch was inna brilliant location being very close to the facilities. Staff were very helpful. Our daughter loves the place and enjoyed the parks and the families of ducks that visited regularly. The new park area is a must for any young family. The site layout is excellent. We arrived home and booked another stay in 4 weeks. Looking forward to returning!

Local attractions

Trip-trap over the bridge from Riverside Country Park to Wooler, a pretty medieval market town with some alluring eateries, pubs and shops, and the ideal starting point for walks into the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
