Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Campervan fitted pitch but we did not stay.

Disliked: Site was tired, dowdy. Toilet/shower were not nice. Toilet block smelt to high heaven of sewage for no apparent reason. Departed and checked into a pub B&B. Advised Aly of why we weren’t staying and also emailed the site to be referred to Owner

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The area is beautiful and the man on reception was really helpful and nice. The view was breathtaking, we had dogs and there was so many places to walk them, the kids loved the pigs as well.

Disliked: No fault of the sites but the midges were unbearable. We tried everything but the only thing that worked was staying in the caravan from 6pm till 9am. Couldn't sit out side or you would get eaten alive. The shower block could do with an upgrade, as no hot water on the last night. The only other thing I would say is the place is looking a little "tired" the grass wasn't cut, the shower block was dirty just little things like that. But when you are paying £30 a night you would like it to be a bit cleaner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Midges are part of the environmental here in Englands wilderness and are bad during wet conditions. As it rained from Wednesday 22/5 to Friday morning more or less constantly, we cannot cut the grass it would make a terrible mess. Toilets and showers are cleaned .regularly!!!

Liked: Good location with plenty of local walks.

Disliked: Forgot about the midges. Facilities are dated and could do with some serious updating for what you are paying. Luckily we have onboard facilities but would have expected better for £33 per night.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Great location away from Pubs towns and people so perfect for a quiet break. Scenic location with plenty of wild life and walks. Touring pitches down by the river which is lovely but can be a problem with midges. Pitches hard standing are a bit narrow but are well spaced. Facilities functional and clean but a bit dated. Overhaul a great stay and a very relaxing weekend.

Disliked: Too many dogs

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Yes one does have to like dogs if visiting us . We mainly cater for dogs and have probably the best dog walks in the land! Michael

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
