  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked First ever trip in our camper and couldn't have picked a better site. So peaceful and beautiful pitches overlooking the river. The owners are lovely and have thought of everything, the pitches are close to fresh water supply, toilets (very clean) and a kitchen with a microwave, vacuum and books or dvd's to borrow. Shower block a little further away but still very close. Grey water and toilet waste disposal also close by. They also have a dog wash area which isn't a surprise as this site is definitely set up with your four legged friend in mind. As well as the river for your dog (and you) to swim in, there's also an amazing dog walk area with ponds (i think you can swim here too if you wish), picnic benches and plenty of dog waste bins around the site. There are also so many lovely walks in the area as well as being right on the Pennine Way and on a night time you can enjoy the beautiful dark skies. Can't wait to visit again.

Liked The whole site from start to finish was brilliant. We met the owner and he was so informative
Once we pitched up we enjoyed an idyllic holiday from start to finish
The dog walking areas are soo well thought out and my fur babies loved it
Close to otternurn and Bellingham. The black bull in Bellingham does amazing food and the premier shop in otter burn is super helpful

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location! Amazing views and several hiking options directly from site. Enormous dog walking area with river access, dogs loved it! The site is tranquil in its own right, so you can happily spend time by the riverside, enjoying a book right at your own pitch. Warm welcome from Michael and his team. Couldn’t do enough.

Disliked Not a dislike as this is truly a, getting away from it place. Therefore need to be prepared with food and drink ahead of arrival, nothing local.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This site is all about the location, in a very quiet part of Northumberland close to hills, forests, and a river. Lots of wildlife, too. The touring pitches are all well located. Loads of hikes and cycle routes nearby. Friendly staff and owners.

Disliked Very little to dislike. The washrooms and showers are a bit tired but they are clean and work fine. Nothing to complain about.

Liked Absolutely amazing welcome! We had been extremely let down by a previous campsite and needed a couple of extra nights. The staff at Border forest ( especially Alli) were fantastic!
The facilities were clean and well maintained. The walks around the campsite were outstanding.
Will definitely be booking again!
Thank you Alli !!

Liked Friendly host
Location for walks

Disliked Facilities were quite basic. I don’t hugely mind, but they are super basic, more like a shack than a facilities block.

Just be aware there’s no on site shop and it’s really far from anything. Again, I was ok with this as I had everything I need, but you might not realise how far you really are to a pint of milk.

From the manager: SHACK it cost fifteen grand just before Covid just to put the the toilets in!! Plus more for kitchen water heater sink etc.
Stone walls and breeze block, in case the Picks or Border Revers start their antics again,I have been sent from the civilised South to try and keep the area calm!, so might need it as a strong point, like a Roman fort.in case of an uprising

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
