  • Quiet Northumberland site with views over the Tyne Valley
  • A mile from the village of Acomb; Hexham 10 minutes' drive
  • Disposable barbecues welcome; rent firepits from the site
Sunniside House in southern Northumberland is a quiet campsite a mile from the small village of Acomb. There are excellent views to admire here from nearly every angle, with far-reaching vistas over the surrounding Tyne Valley and out to the Pennine peaks beyond. This simple, rural site has a small number of pitches to ensure everyone has sufficient breathing space, along with facilities including a shower, toilets, a washing-up area and a shared fridge. On site, you may also be able to help the farmers feed the lambs (in spring only). It is also just a mile away from a popular local pub. If you feel like stretching your legs, you might like to walk the two miles out to Hadrian's Wall for rambles along the old Roman frontier. It's also a couple of miles from the heaps of heritage on display at St. Oswald's in Lee Church and the site of the Battle of Heavenfield. Disposable barbecues are welcome, but they are only allowed in designated areas, and firepits can be rented on site. Packs of kiln-dried wood, kindling and firelighters are available to buy. Please do not bring your own fuel.

Pennine View non-electric mixed motorhome pitch

Liked: We were greeted by the very friendly and helpful owners, who informed us about everything we needed to know. Easily accessible campsite, very quiet and peaceful, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the evening sunshine, watching the sun set. Great site for the Great North Run. The metro is 25 minutes drive away and it avoids the inflated prices of staying in the town centre.

Disliked: We both wished we could have stayed longer!

Pennine View non-electric mixed motorhome pitch

Liked: Nice small quiet site, only a hundred yards off the road out of the village. Level(ish) MH pitches at the back of the field are raised up and have a lovely view across the hills. Clean toilets and good showers, all worked well. I liked the idea of a communal fridge and freezer (good for tent campers). Friendly host (Holly?), nice welcome and showed us where everything was.

Disliked: Nothing really, although not cheap considering no elec hookup

Pennine View non-electric mixed motorhome pitch

Liked: What a gem! Beautiful views. Small site immaculately tended. Holly and Jim were very friendly and knowledgeable pointing us towards local atttactions and amenities. The site was also ideally sited for the Salmon fishing on the Tyne booked for my husband’s birthday. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again, watching the shooting stars and the northern lights while sitting around a fire pit is hard to beat.

Disliked: Nothing.
