  • Family-friendly Northumberland touring site with luxury facilities
  • Holy Island 25 minutes’ drive and Alnwick Castle 35 minutes
  • Soft-play centre and games field; restaurant and adults-only bar
Plush Ord House Country Park is set on 42 peaceful, tree-lined acres of private parkland at East Ord, within 10 minutes’ drive of gorgeous Northumberland countryside, historic Berwick-upon-Tweed and sandy Spittal Beach on the North Sea. It’s also easy to access for anyone travelling north or south, as the main A1 is just five minutes away. A whole bunch of facilities at this leafy, landscaped site will make life very easy for you indeed. Travelling with the kids? If your toddlers have energy to burn off, there’s a soft-play centre where they can have a run around, while older kids can keep busy on the playground, activity area and games field. If you’re after a bit of grown-up downtime, simply drift off to the elegant adults-only lounge bar for some peaceful R&R; otherwise head to the family-friendly main bar or book the informal Ord House Lounge Bar and Grill, where there’s a designated kids’ zone. Prettily landscaped pitches are all neatly delineated by clipped hedges. Practical on-site amenities include a laundry service with coin-operated washing machines and dryers, a dish-washing and veg-prep area, and pristine tiled showers in spacious family bathrooms with hair dryers and shaving points.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Beautiful well-kept site, good food and friendly staff. Liked the idea of security code on toilet/washing facilities.

Disliked Bar open to general public on bingo nights making it difficult to get seats and alsi meant kids running around site unattended. We witnessed one pushbike accident during this time. A small shop selling essentials would have been useful as there are none around the village.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Generous pitch size.

Disliked Not for us, we booked the more expensive pitch which was located a good walk to shower/toilet block. Closer for regular pitch tourers but they looked squashed up and no hedges between.
Had to use a code to get into toilet facilities which was ridiculous.
Hedges between pitches too low.
Told when we arrived in the afternoon to park a certain way on the pitch, then night warden allowed new arrivals to park anyway which reduced privacy considerably.
No free Wifi unless you pay and that kept dropping out!

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Large pitches, well maintained. The onsite restaurant was a bonus- we had a takeaway meal box as the dog is not allowed in the restaurant. But good value and nice not to have to cook! The bathrooms were the poshest I've ever seen on a campsite, with huge modern showers- all spotless.

Disliked Nothing to dislike- not our usual style of site, as many mobile homes also located there. But everything was spotless and very quiet.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked The site was very well kept and pitches were a great size. Easy check in process and the staff on site were pleasant.

Disliked The only downside was that the bar wasn’t dog friendly but the outside area where the mini golf place is (which in 4 days I never saw used) could have a few tables placed there instead for people with dogs. Having to get a bus into the town, or £35 one way in a dog friendly UBER, to have a nice meal with the dogs has put us off returning.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Nice clean site. Toilet block clean.

Disliked Dog friendly but not allowed in the bar and no seating outside so didn’t use it. Play area just in front of us was quite noisy at times. The sign says only people who are staying on the park can use the play area but cars were dropping kids off and then parents were going in the bar. Staff using lawnmower at 8am was a bit annoying

Local attractions

It’s time to get to grips with some Northumberland history. Mighty Bamburgh Castle (25 minutes’ drive) is open for guided tours, while Alnwick Castle (35 minutes) is famed for its exotic Poison Garden and Harry Potter film locations. You can nip across the causeway to Holy Island (25 minutes) and tour the castle and cathedral, or stretch your legs on a wander around the 16th-century walls of Berwick-upon-Tweed (five minutes). Sneak across the border into Scotland to potter around rooms stuffed with priceless Chippendale furniture at Palladian-era Paxton House (10 minutes), or make for Marchmont House to wander its wondrous gardens (half an hour). Spectacular Floors Castle (40 minutes) has a series of opulent apartments to discover, along with a walled garden and scenic walks along the River Tweed. Experiencing cultural overload? Sail forth onto the North Sea for dolphin-spotting expeditions or Farne Islands cruises to see puffins and seals from Seahouses (35 minutes). Happier on dry land? Stride out in Northumberland National Park (25 minutes), or play a round of golf – there are a couple of courses in less than 10 minutes’ drive.
