Peaceful and relaxing with great views

  • Welcoming peaceful adults-only touring park in rural North Yorkshire
  • Bus stop at site entrance; a 15-minute drive to central York and Selby
  • Close to villages, woodland walks and cycle trails to York and Selby
There are many things to like about The Bungalow Caravan Site – besides its charming owners Andrew and Sonia. Top of the list must surely be the location: this quiet adults-only site sits in the Ouse valley, surrounded by open countryside and yet a mere 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of York. This handy setting makes it a cinch to get out and explore the local area, whether you’re aiming to take city days, visit market towns and villages or wander through the countryside (the rural ramble to the tearooms in Moreby village is particularly recommended). Getting out and about is easy even if you don’t fancy the drive: there are woodland walks to be had right by the site, and there’s a bus stop with regular services at the entrance to the site where you can flag down a ride into the city. The Bungalow Caravan Site also has bicycles for hire should you want to pedal along the trails to York and Selby. Touring pitches here are all kitted out for all-season use, and each has access to a 16-amp hookup (there are no toilets or showers though, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient on that front). Dogs are welcome on site, but they’ll need to be kept on a lead at all times.

What customers say

Beautifully kept, spotless site with spacious, level pitches & a peaceful vibe. Andrew, the owner, is a star! Great bus links to York right outside. Info hut’s handy. A few missed on-site loos/showers & a bit of road noise, but most love it and want to come back.

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A very beautiful, well kept site. Nice level pitches with a lovely outlook, I would have been happy with any pitch. A lovely information hut which gave bus timetables, local restaurant and pub information, suggestions for local walks, and offered a variety of dvds to borrow. Very pleasant and friendly host. Bus stop directly outside the site, fantastic for travelling into York. We were delighted with the roaming peacocks who wandered about. No showers or toilets but we are happy to use our own facilities. Very pleasant stay and if you get a chance visit Selby Abbey, one of the most interesting and welcoming abbey/cathedrals I have visited.

Disliked The road was busy and when we walked it was very fast, but it was at 5pm. So would recommend to pick your walking times accordingly.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely well maintained site, very clean. On arrival had a dear in field behind us, 2 peacocks come to visit us on a regular basis, along with 4-5 peahens. Lots of other different birds calling. Site has benches with 'quirky' camping phrases on, just to give it a homely feel. Information 'hut' on site stocked with information on surrounding area. Books, board games, dvds and cds to borrow. Information board giving location of local shops (including Post code and distance) Bus stop right outside gate.

Local attractions

To get out and about locally, there’s fishing available less than half a mile away, and horse riding two miles away; you could also easily head up to Naburn Marina (three miles away), where there’s boat hire and a café, or go for a stroll around Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens (five minutes’ drive). For more rural escapades, head over to Burnby Hall Gardens (half an hour) to wander through the Victorian Garden and Secret Garden and walk by the lakes – at their very best in midsummer, when more than 100 varieties of water lilies burst into bloom. A trip on the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (40 minutes) is a splendid way to see some more of the local scenery. Up for some urban time? York (15 minutes’ drive or bus ride) is top of the list for most – for minster visits, river cruises and shopping on The Shambles – but it’s worth taking a look at Selby (15 minutes) and Leeds (40 minutes) too if you’ve got a little more time on your hands.
