  • Family-run farm campsite on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales
  • Lake District National Park and Forest of Bowland 40 minutes’ drive
  • Luxury showers with underfloor heating; dog-friendly site
Not one national park, but two – with a National Landscape area thrown in for good measure. That’s what you get at Dales and Trails, a small, family-run and exclusive-use campsite on the edge of the spectacular Yorkshire Dales National Park. It’s also in pole position for excursions to the Lake District National Park or Forest of Bowland National Landscape (both around 40 minutes’ drive). Based on a working farm with views to the Three Peaks near Giggleswick (10 minutes), this rural site is also in a dark-skies area, so make sure you cosy up around the firepit on clear nights for the chance to watch the stars glittering across the heavens. Facilities here have been nicely thought out: guests have access to smart modern shower rooms with underfloor heating (bliss on a brisk Yorkshire day) and luscious toiletries provided. There are many scenic walks straight from the site, so dog owners, bring your pets too and exercise them among the untamed Dales scenery. Cyclists and bikers can relax, happy in the knowledge that there’s dry, secure storage for bicycles and motorbikes, and drivers can charge their electric vehicles too (for a small fee).

Liked: Charles, Lauren and family were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The Dales and Trails campsite and facilities are immaculate and the site has a stunning 360 vista with perfect views of Ingleborough and you can just see Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside.

Electric optional hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Massive shout out to Lauren and Charles. Area, site, pitch, hosts and facilities. I had a one night stopover after travelling from Scotland. A beautiful small site ideal for campervan. After checking out the facilities (which was a wow and the best ever) I stopped by a wall to post to family and was greeted by 3 little sets of eyes. 4 day old lambs. I was joined by the owner who said "you can help me feed them hang on" I then spent an hour in the pen with 3 lambs trying to feed from a bottle and being told all about them and how the family sheep farm. It was a perfect end to my travels and so kind of them. Had an amazing night's sleep with beautiful views of the Dale's. Spoke to Lauren upon checking out who was delightful, paid for my electricity usage (3.50 for the night, they read the meter). Very busy at weekends but often availability at weekdays, cater for exclusive groups at weekends, pot washing sink around back of bungalow with hot water. Drinking water available, unsure re elsan as didn't need. Lots of placed to visit and bike trails. Farms own meat available and price list on back of bathroom doors plus wood etc. 10 pitches with EHU mixture of geass and hard standing but can accommodate more when in a large group.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing...

Disliked: Nothing really - owners are building more toilets and an undercover washing-up area for summer 2025.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Liked it all. Pitch with the most amazing view across the valley to Ingleborough. if you turned the other way another great view and lambs in the field.
Bathrooms are of a standard you would expect to find in a posh B&B, underfloor heating lots of hot water.
Owners very friendly and helpful, great knowledge of local places the eat, will point out walk you can do straight from the site.
I've been recommending the site to work colleagues who enjoy camping.

Disliked: nothing

Electric optional hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: We had a lovely stay—greeted with a warm welcome from our hosts, Lauren and Charles. The scenery around Dales & Trails is absolutely stunning. We decided to stay at the area of the camp site and just relax, taking peaceful walks along the public footpaths and soaking in the beautiful surroundings. The facilities were well maintained, clean, and tidy, adding to the overall comfort of our stay. A friendly atmosphere, amazing views, and a great base for unwinding or heading out on local walks. Highly recommend!

Disliked: One small note—the dish wash sink setup wasn’t very ergonomic (to low) and caused a bit of back strain, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience.

Local attractions

The energetic among you will no doubt relish the challenge of hiking the Three Peaks (it’s 10 minutes’ drive to Ingleborough), or try climbing at Castleberg Rock (10 minutes) and fell running directly from the campsite. But there’s plenty of low-octane fun to be had too: have a potter around Malham Cove (25 minutes), or spot the stream trains chugging across sweeping Ribblehead Viaduct (25 minutes). Pretty Dales towns to explore include Hawes (40 minutes), where you can learn about local life in the Dales Countryside Museum and taste award-winning cheeses at Wensleydale Creamery. The market town of Giggleswick and its close neighbour Settle (10 minutes) are both packed with cosy old pubs, while in Skipton (half an hour), you can cruise the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on a day-hire barge. And talking of water, you can be cruising Lake Windermere in 50 minutes, fishing on Stocks Reservoir in the Forest of Bowland in 40 minutes, or following the circular trail to dramatic waterfalls at Ingleton (20 minutes).
