Jacobs Mount Caravan Park: Sunny day

General

  • Well-maintained quiet family park close to Scarborough town centre
  • Excellently set for days at Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington
  • Shop, launderette, two play areas and games room

How do you fancy a family hol in a family-run park near smashing Scarborough – but in a serene and sheltered setting surrounded by woodland and wide open North Yorkshire countryside?

Giddy up to Jacobs Mount Caravan Park, on the edge of the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve but only two miles from the town centre and beaches of North Yorkshire's seaside capital. It's within easy trotting distance of other county attractions like Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington if your tastes tend to towns… and the North York Moors, hiking and biking routes, Dalby Forest, steamy vintage railways and a whole heap more if you're more of a countryside connoisseur.

Although it's a quiet family park, Jacobs Mount is well set up with facilities including two play areas and a games room. Barbecues are allowed and a shop is on site for essentials.

Amenities are well covered here too, with heated shower blocks, disabled facilities, a launderette, a washing-up area and a parent and baby washroom.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

A charge of £0,40 (R7,84) applies for the use of the shower.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (excluding couples) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Entertainment and activities are available between 04/03 and 30/10.

A £10 deposit will be taken for electricity, which is metered on site at £0.35 per kWh. Any monies leftover will be refunded upon departure.

The £10 barrier pass deposit can only be paid in cash.

Motorhomes and campervans must have undergone proper conversion or will not be allowed onsite.

The site was lovey and quiet even though there were plenty of kids enjoying themselves. Great facilities in terms of the park for my 3 year old. Was able to let her play on her scooter while not worrying. Nice food and beer on the club house.

    Disliked:

Wasn’t a fan of tokens for showering etc. but we worked around that.

Location, view and Sandra was very helpful.

    Disliked:

Where we were sited was completely surrounded by seasonally pitched caravans so we were unable to engage in conversation with any other people.
We might as well have been in the middle of a field on our own.
Would have been nicer to have had some other people around.

Only one key card is not that useful. If I popped down the town in the car I needed the key card to exit the barrier. If my wife wanted to use the toilet whilst I was gone she could not as she needed the same card for the toilet. Two would be better.

Supply some site information including a site plan to show the rubbish/waste water/chemical disposal points. I know there is a plan in the office but when you arrive there is a lot of information to take in all at once.

Would be helpful to make a note on the web site that the electric hookup point is not on the serviced pitch, it is almost on the adjacent pitch so quite a long lead is required. The lead I had has been perfect on all the fully serviced pitches we have stayed on (and that's a lot over the past 40 odd years) but would not reach the electric point on our pitch. No.30. Fortunately, Sandra was able to locate and lend me a longer lead for the duration of our stay.

Lovely pitches, good pub on site, friendly staff. Nice food served in pub. Games night a good laugh. Site extremely well kept. Very high standard of cleanliness in toilets and showers. We used less than £10 electric on our 3 day stay. The price of the site is very reasonable.

Local attractions

Splendid seaside days are easily had at Scarborough, two miles from Jacobs Mount Caravan Park and home to the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary, the Rotunda Museum and the North Cliff and South Cliff golf clubs alongside its two beaches (shore fishing from here is rightly recommended too).

Also rightly recommended in the area are days at Filey for birdwatching at Filey Brigg, Bridlington for the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs, and Whitby for abbey, fish and chips and Goths lurking gloomily among the churchyard tombstones. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts at Filey for those who fancy a hike or an amble.

As it's North Yorkshire, history is all around too: potter along to the historic highlights of the Cleveland Way like Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey, or have a city day out in York to see its magnif minster, the Jorvik Viking Museum and many tiny cobbled streets.

Must see

  • Dalby Forest Visitor Centre (16.5 kilometres)
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (22.6 kilometres)
  • Burton Agnes Hall (25.0 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (14.1 kilometres)
  • Yorkshire Coast (15.3 kilometres)
