  • Small quiet site near Stokesley, with views of the Cleveland Hills
  • A half-hour drive from the coast or the centre of Middlesbrough
  • Well-placed for walks in the North York Moors National Park
This is fine a spot for folk looking to get out on walks and bike rides, or in search of other outdoor activities, that’s for sure. A small and privately-owned North Yorkshire site three miles south of the market town of Stokesley and about a half-hour drive from the centre of Middlesbrough, Southview Farm makes for a rather splendid base… The views from the site give something of a hint that the Cleveland Hills are nearby, with the huge expanse of the North York Moors National Park another option on the activities front. If you fancy a few lungfuls of sea air on one of your strolls, set forth for the coast – it’s about half an hour’s drive to Saltburn-by-the-Sea from here. Any dogs out there hopefully wagging tails at the idea of all this should be pleased to hear that they’re welcome to come along for a stay at Southview Farm. It’s also a place that allows outdoor cooks to have a go with their barbecues, although there are several places to eat, drink or pick up takeaways in Stokesley if you’d rather someone else did the honours.

Liked: Lovely quiet, quaint park. Clean facilities and lovely friendly chap saw us in and even let us pick our own pitch taking into consideration we had with us our 3yr old son 6 month old baby.

Disliked: Not much to dislike really! If i had to write something it was tbe road into the site, had little to passing points but thats not the sites issues, so no problems here.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We stayed at Southview Farm for our second time away in our rooftop tent. The photographs on here are what made us choose this site. Unfortunately for us we chose a weekend when it was really foggy! However we found that this site was brilliant for so much more than the view. The toilet/shower blocks are very clean and well maintained and didn’t feel like “camping” toilets to me! The location is perfect, in a field in the middle of what seems like no where. Very peaceful and a perfect little get away. The pitches are spaced well apart and not over looked or crowded. We came with our 2 frenchies and they were really relaxed and enjoyed hanging out with us whilst we sat outside the tent on the evening. Finally the staff at the site were lovely, from when we rang the day before with a question to being on the site. A special mention to Dave who is so friendly and you can tell that he really cares about everyone who comes to stay on the site. Thank you for your loan of the wind breaker when you saw us sat out without one! We will definitely add one to our camping kit next time. Would recommend this site to anyone looking at staying here and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Dave the campsite manager was fabulous. Real old school , no nonsense character who checked on everyone to make sure all was ok and ensuring the site was quiet during quiet time. The views are beautiful in this area. Be sure to take a trip to Lord Stones whilst there.

Disliked: Some people didn't pick up their dog poo on the dog walking field and just left the bags on the ground. That's not fair on camp staff.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: pleased you enjoyed your stay am sorry that we get visitors that do not pick there dog poo up as it so frustrates me having too do it before cutting the grass it makes me feel like shutting the dog walk but then it spoils it for people like yourself but i do ask people too pick there own up and report too me anyone who does not as i will barr them from the site

Thank you for having us- great site with everything we needed!

Liked: The campsite was great for us and had everything we needed for our weekend away. Shower and toilet block were always clean and tidy and on top of that warm - which was a very welcomed and pleasant bonus!!! The sites staff were friendly throughout our stay and on site to help should it be needed while we were there. Thanks for having us, this site would definitely be recommended by us to anyone needing somewhere in the area!

Liked: The views! Literally in a field in the middle of no where. Not overcrowded, no screaming kids, so peaceful! The facilities were basic but clean, and liked that each cubicle was a toilet and a shower. The showers were great too! Liked that electric and showers were included without being ripped off. Site very friendly and owners super helpful with local tips too!

Disliked: Nothing. Great site!

Local attractions

It’s likely you’ll be spending a fair bit of time out and about in the wilderness (or countryside, seaside, whatever else you’d like to call it) and with that comes some gorgeous wildlife and walking trails. Leven Valley Alpacas (20 minutes' drive) combines both – treks through an 11-acre farm with alpacas for company – while Butterfly World (25 minutes) is a rainforest with butterflies of all shapes, sizes and colours. As for those lengthier hikes, the trails at Roseberry Topping (15 minutes) will take you to the woods and a hilltop with views over Cleveland. Guisborough Forest (20 minutes) is just as adventurous, with a woodland cycling trail or hiking trails. There’s Saltburn-by-the-Sea (half an hour) when you’re craving a stroll along the seafront too… or a trip up the cliff tramway and a surfing session on the sandy beach. If you like your strolls a little more historic, you’ll have a monk’s cell and ruins of a medieval monastery to explore around the National Trust’s Mount Grace Priory (15 minutes) and at the National Trust’s Ormesbury Hall (20 minutes), an 18th-century mansion. Cleveland Ironstone Museum (35 minutes) is another historic place, with mine remains, 3D models and collections from the 19th century.
