  • Pop-up Yorkshire Dales site with stunning views across Wensleydale
  • Middleham Castle, Bolton Castle and Aysgarth Falls 15 minutes’ drive
  • Pubs about 20 minutes’ walk; shops and restaurants 10 minutes’ drive
Well, this is quite some setting. Penhill Park is a nearly wild site with superb views over the hills and vales of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There's an abundance of rural beauty to explore from the neatly mown field, and conveniently, the shops, supermarkets and restaurants of Leyburn are an easy 10 minutes’ drive away. Set on the edge of a 100-acre working farm, this family-friendly site is at the foot of Penhill hiking area and also adjacent to Middleham Moor, where you can watch racehorses from the local yards exercise on the gallops every morning. Dogs are welcome to accompany you on your meanders (there are two pubs about 20 minutes’ walk away too), but must be kept on a lead while on site as livestock grazes the surrounding fields. This peaceful spot is equipped with eco-toilets and a shower shack, a washing-up area and recycling amenities. The owners operate a ‘leave nothing behind but footprints’ policy, so be sure to take all your waste home with you. Depending on weather conditions, firepits are generally allowed, but please don’t use disposable barbecues or light campfires on the ground.

What customers say

Spacious, clean, well-kept site with great country views & peace. Direct access to walks, farm animals loved. Toilets & showers spotless, though basic. Wind a factor for some; untreated spring water advertised. Manager's adjusted late arrival times.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Quiet place with stunning views. Four composing toilets 2xladies 2xmen. The toilets and shower were all kept very clean. It is very close to Forbidden Corner 5miles? Great big field....they did have a goal post for kids.

Disliked If busy thinks it needs more than one shower. The road to get to the field needs more stones. The sign for the campsite needs to be better...missed it going up hill to the farm. Also sat nav took us to your neighbouring farm apparently he gets 5 of your customers per week, nice man though.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Spectacular views and a great base for some walks. The pub is a 20 minute walk away but mostly downhill so a good uphill walk on the way back!
Toilets basic but clean and functional. The hot shower was a lovely surprise,
Communication with the owners was good, always being quick to respond.

Disliked A difficult drive up to the campsite for larger campers as a few hairpin turns.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location with fantastic views across Wensleydale.

The site is very spacious with lots of space for the kids to run around.

The facilities were basic, but very well looked after. If you're after a wild camping experience, but with a shower then it's perfect!

Phone signal is excellent, which was a surprise given the remote location.

If you're in a tent, then make sure you've pegged it down well as it can get quite windy!

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Beautiful views, large field, clean toilets & shower. Toilets lit on a night. Watched race horses in the morning. Beautiful walks from the site & surrounded by livestock. Highly recommended.

Disliked Not dislikes but recommendations: sign for Penhill Park needs to be bigger & nearer the road. The step up to the compost toilets needs a handle for older/less mobile guests. Not big problems & certainly didn’t spoil our stay.

Liked Loved the vibe of this campsite and it had a gorgeous view! Facilities were well looked after and clean every time!

Disliked There’s only one shower and the water is warm but not hot, however I was there on a BH and only had to queue for the shower once! :)
