  • Dog-friendly site with views of Roseberry Topping
  • Just outside the North York Moors; 15 minutes’ drive to Saltburn
  • Five minutes' drive from dining spots and shops in Guisborough
Don’t you worry about finding a place with gorgeous hill views, beaches a short drive away and X – Wyke Lodges and Touring Caravans has got it all sorted. These aren’t just any old views. Here on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, the site faces Roseberry Topping, a partially cone-shaped hill that many say must be the long-lost sibling of Matterhorn in the Alps. A great family venture this may well be, as Wyke Lodges and Touring Caravans prides itself on being a tiptop kid-friendly experience. The facilities include a kids’ park, a washing-up area, wifi and male, female and accessible toilets. There are multiple water points, as well as waste and grey water disposal areas. For dining spots and shops, the market town of Guisborough is just five minutes’ drive away. It's just another bonus that the site has good access to the northeast coast: it's 15 minutes’ drive away from the beach at Saltburn-by-the-Sea, which has the oldest water-balanced cliff tramway in the UK and a historic pier. Staithes and Whitby are within 35 minutes' drive of the site and Scarborough is an hour away. A walk up Roseberry Topping, 10 minutes’ drive away, might also make your Yorkshire bucket list. Make your rounds of market towns like Stokesley, 15 minutes’ drive away, and Yarm, 25 minutes away. Cinemas and other attractions are in Middlesbrough, which is a 20-minute drive or so away. For bigger cities, Durham is 50 minutes' drive away and York is an hour and 15 minutes' drive away.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely fantastic site, our 3 and 8 year old kids loved the play park, it's easy to see from most of the touring pitches which we liked as they could go whenever they wanted to. The site is very, very clean. Owners are brilliant and couldn't be more helpful. It was my first time towing our new caravan and he said to ask if we needed any help or advice setting up. Shower block and toilets spotless and very new. WiFi was very good for the kids devices on a night We also took our 2 dogs with us and walked them on the nearby public footpath and wooded area, the kids enjoyed that too making dens in the wood. Will definitely return and honestly couldn't fault the place 👍 Thanks again

Disliked: Nothing at all

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Very friendly owners who are pleased to go way beyond normal friendliness even offering to take us to the nearby (1.5 miles) station. (Direct train to Whitby ). There are many flat, hard standing pitches and many opportunities for tents. The local pub is just across the road. The food was great but the pub service very slow. The facilities, shower block, are a model of cleanliness. We stayed off peak with e no children on weekdays but quite a few arrived for the weekend. There is pleant of space for the kids and a well maintained, safe play area Saltburn By The Sea is <30mins away and well worth a visit. Many supermarkets in Guisborough,< 20 mins away. Close by is a park at Flats Lane which provides a very pleasant location to while away several hours and the wooden sculptures are superb. Because of the road, a fast dual carriageway, you must approach from the Guisborough direction. The owners are awaiting a decision for a drinks license and have a snug bar area set aside when the license is granted. Easy grey water emptying facilities which do not require accurate positioning on the concrete , just open the tap and the water drains to the central guttering. Excellent toilet emptying facilities for chemical toilets.

Disliked: No washing or drying facilities yet. The road outside is dual carriageway and you must turn left and no access across the central barrier. If your sat nav is old it constantly advises you to 'Do a U turn. Well you can't. But there are roundabouts in both directions which make the road far safer.

Liked: The campsite was accessible with stunning surroundings. It was quiet, even during the day when the campsite was full. It’s only a 5 minute drive into Guisborough where there are lots of food and drink spots. It’s also dog friendly.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Friendly owner and well kept site. Pitches are a good size and level. It is close to a busy road as some have stated, but it’s fairly quiet at night. I am a poor sleeper and hate being near noisy roads but this was absolutely no problem on this site. It was a very short walk to access the woods from the site which is ideal for dog walking. On the site is a small playground for kids and a large shed type bar that may have been work in progress as it wasn’t open and we forgot to enquire about it while we were there. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get to see the lovely views as the weather was pretty poor when we were there. The Cross Keys pub across the road is very nice and worth a visit. Also a short drive away in Great Ayton is The Poor House which is a lovely little bar with a pizza oven; really cosy in here. Overall we were very happy with our stay and had no problems (apart from the weather).

Disliked: Shower curtains in the showers that stick to you but the shower was nice and warm and powerful.

Local attractions

Beach day? You’ve got yourself a few options. Staithes (half an hour’s drive) is a worthy spot. Set over a hillside with cobbled streets and old cottages, the village also has a beach with lovely rockpools. You might be lucky enough to uncover a few fossils too. In Whitby (35 minutes), the beach is lined with gorgeous beach huts. Water activities aren’t exclusive to the sea, either. Windsurfing and boat rides are some of the activities at the Tees Barrage Bridge (20 minutes). At Cod Beck Reservoir (25 minutes), there’s no swimming but the water makes for gorgeous hiking views. A hilly climb is also on hand at Carlton Bank (25 minutes), which has moor views to switch things up. A famous figure in these parts is Captain Cook; learn about his journeys at the Captain Cook's Monument (15 minutes) or the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum (15 minutes).
