  • Wildlife haven on an adults-only working farm in East Yorkshire
  • A 20-minute drive from Bridlington, its beaches and an animal park
  • Train station, pubs, chip shop and food shop within walking distance
Longing for a little bit (or a lot) of wildlife in East Yorkshire? A 20-minute drive away from Bridlington’s beaches and animal park, Heapfield Farm has a sizable helping. From this adults-only site on a small, family-run traditional working livestock farm, mix up the rather peaceful countryside with all the pleasures of the seaside (windsurfing, pottery-making or doggy paddling in the sea, anyone?) Veer away from the road and hide yourself away, as the farm is tucked away in a good wildlife zone with mowing and cutback kept to a minimum, all the better for happy animal visitors (see if you can spot them). When they’re available, you’ll also have good dibs on fresh eggs direct from the farm. Save some space in your stomach though… as this site is based on the outskirts of Nafferton village near Driffield, there are food shops, pubs (including a rather hipster gastropub) and a fish and chip chop under 20 minutes' walk away from the site. There's a train station here too, just a five-minute walk away (but not too bothersome on the ears when you're around site) if you'd like to whizz away to Scarborough or Hull. Once you’ve finished easing into the beach life or eyeing up the wildlife around the site, other facilities around the site include one toilet, one shower and an Elsan point. While Heapfield is happy to welcome dogs, please note that it is both a quiet site and a working farm, meaning dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Please note that this site does not accept children. While the site team are happy to chat to you about their farming methods, they ask that you do not approach any farm animals, buildings or machinery.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: This is RAT infested ate through my plastic tubs that had my food in. Then we found them in my sons car enginea along with the food they took. They ate through my brand new tent. Was supposed to stay 2 nights but only stayed 1 night as my wife's nerves were shot from the night before as the rats was running around the tent as well as over my self and my wife. Would not recommend. It was appalling. Should have been told about rats. Should also be given our money back and compensation for my tent that was brand new only bought it in the Friday morning before we came. My son and his girlfriend and her parents also had problems with the rats...DO NOT GO HERE!!

From the manager: Wow. No one said anything whilst you were here all weekend? Also others guests didn't appear to have any issues. Nor did you say anything when we checked with you Saturday morning. In fact we were told "it's all great!" . This comes across as malicious and extreme - don't know why?? Others on the same time didn't report anything either. You have in your scores - marked for things we don't offer, so can't really take this seriously. Such a shame after numerous 10/10's and so many repeat visitors.

Good value for money campsite.

Liked: Great little adult only campsite with electric on a working farm on the edge of a lovely village. In walking distance walk to the train station to the coast, shops and 3 pubs. Very friendly and helpful owner. Would definitely stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Space and location.

Disliked: Noise. Train line very near and ran 6am to 10pm. Also grain dryers running all night . Noisiest field ever stopped in.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry you felt that way. We haven't heard this from anyone else - as can be seen by other reviews. We have a large number of repeat visitors and you will have seen how popular we are when you were here. Not sure what you mean about grain dryers as there aren't any nearby. Trains can be heard at times but people often come specifically for the convenience of the train - the location of which is mentioned in the site details. We note you have scored for things we don't offer offer so not sure where those scores came from!?. Child friendly low score ? Adult only site. We don't say anything about good Wi-Fi either etc. etc. You obviously didn't like it, but didn't mention anything at the time during your whole stay (no issues raised whilst you were here and you chose not to leave early). Can't please all the people all the time!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very basic as expected would have been beneficial for the toilet to have been working in the field . Farmer came over to welcome us Needs a little more DIY , but clean

Disliked: A lick of paint would make it nicer

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry about the toilet in the field - we discovered someone hadn't been exactly well behaved that day! Yes we are a basic site, but we hope our descriptions and pricing reflect that. However, good to see you would be happy to recommend and visit again.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great small site, electric, good space for a bigger tent. Lovely friendly owners, 5 minutes to the train station for Bridlington so we could leave the car. Toilet functional (all you need). Again love the small, quiet site, sheep in one field, cows in the next.

Disliked: Did go to use the toilet on the field once but wasn't working, looked like someone had damaged it. Can't blame owners for that. 2 couples decided to have their own domestics on the same night for a few hours. Shouting and swearing but again not the owners fault. Silly behaviour from grown adults.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your top score! Really sorry you had unpleasant neighbours. We would have tried to help had we known. Glad it's not out you off coming again and you are happy to recommend. We really do hope we see you again soon. 😁

Local attractions

Bring your beach gear and don’t forget your swimming suit or trunks, as Hornsea Beach (half an hour's drive) has light waves great for sailing, jetskiing, windsurfing and sea kayaking. Over at Fraisthorpe Beach (25 minutes), however, sand is the speciality – or a light swim, if you have any energy left. In Bridlington (15 minutes), more beaches are on the cards, as well as the Bridlington Animal Park (20 minutes). Peep at meerkats, lemurs and zebras in their enclosures here… If a leisurely stroll beside the canal sounds right up your alley after all that activity, Driffield Canal (five minutes) is close to the site. Perhaps plan to head and see a show at the Driffield Showground (10 minutes). Then, drop by the Burton Agnes Hall (10 minutes), a rather posh Elizabethan manor with a walled garden you might want to purposefully get lost in.
