  • Quiet family site surrounded by the Teesdale countryside
  • In the Pennine Dales, 15 minutes' drive from Barnard Castle
  • Set in the grounds of a traditional farmhouse; bus stop just outside
Newton Lodge Campsite is in the pretty village of Mickleton, a small spot deep in the gorgeous Teesdale countryside. Whether you're all about getting your boots on and exploring the countryside or prefer to put your feet up, this small-scale site in the grounds of a traditional farmhouse could be the one for you. This low-key site caters for families and couples and operates a low-noise policy, especially after 9pm when quiet hours come into effect. The skies get very dark here at night, giving spectacular views over the starry sky on cloudless nights, while by day there are great vistas over the adjacent Pennine Dales to admire. There is a public bus stop directly outside the property with services running to and from Middleton and Barnard Castle, including the villages in between. This site has a facilities block with a shower, two toilets, a wash room and a washing-up area.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Location

Disliked: The site was noisy from a busy road at the side and loud traffic using it, not at all quiet as suggested by previous reviewers. We live rurally and expected the site to be dark which we are used to. This was not the case and it was bright at night from street lamps. The facilities were very basic the toilet chemical waste wasn’t great and could do with some more thought. I was checked in by a family relative who waved her hand to the area where the drinking water could be found and I never saw the owner at all. The site is also on a slope so take chocks unless you want to be wonky all night long. The price is extortionate for what you get.
