  • Peaceful, lakeside motorhome and caravan park at Hepworth in Suffolk
  • Thetford Forest Park 20 minutes’ drive; Bury St Edmunds 25 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches with lake views; play area; dog walks from site
Arthur’s Retreat touring site is on the outskirts of Hepworth village, right on the border between the lovely counties of Suffolk and Norfolk in fen country. It’s just off the A143, so base yourself here to explore locally or stop over for a night or two on your journey to Felixstowe (an hour’s drive). A small cluster of hardstanding pitches is set in a peaceful lakeside field; each has its own picnic bench for enjoying the views, and there are additional bench seats overlooking the water. You can rent firepits to keep warm and cosy, get a barbecue going and enjoy watching the stars on cloudless nights. Kids will have a ball running around in the play area, and there are several footpaths leading into the Suffolk countryside (handy for exercising any dogs). There are drinking-water taps on every pitch, and electric hook-ups are available for an additional fee.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Stayed at the retreat over the bank holiday weekend. Large plots but no facilities (doesn't bother us as we are self contained). Very peaceful site. In summary a no frills site that is in it's infancy but will no doubt be a success. Owner Hollie also came to see us and asked if we had any suggestions to improve the site which was a nice touch.

Disliked: Nothing to mention.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Small site with all hard standing pitches that had EHU and water tap on each Very friendly owner. Arrival at any time which was perfect for us . Lovely surroundings and local walks .Pond and a little play area for children .WI-FI excellent. Very reasonably priced and for us not to far from home ! I’m sure it is usually a very tranquil/peaceful campsite to chill and unwind but we were soon to discover our 24 hour relaxing break was not to be !

Disliked: Shortly after our arrival mid morning an campervan arrived with 3 young men in it ! From the minute of arrival out came the bottles of beer/lager and on went the music .This continued throughout the day with a couple of short breaks with the music !The vocabulary used was not very nice with the F word in most sentences .Bottle after bottle after bottle was drunk and after they had talked to the gentleman who was looking after the site ,they decided that they would all go for a swim in the pond despite him telling them that it was not advisable! My husband and I were getting so fed up and just as it was getting dark they went off to look for wood for their fire in an old drum .This went on until about 1.30 in the morning with music and the sound of wood being sawed and talking as well as the sound of the bottles ! We were amazed that looking at the campsite rules several were broken ! By the time we finally went to sleep and woke in the morning we were actually pleased to be coming home which was sad I’m sure this was an isolated occurrence but unfortunate for us !

From the manager: Thank you very much for your positive feedback. I sincerely apologise for the behaviour of the three young men who arrived. This was our first experience of having such a group come to drink, and it is not typical of the motorhome travellers we usually welcome. Please be assured that their behaviour was neither wanted nor acceptable on our site. The mess they left behind, the noise, and the use of a fire bin were entirely inappropriate. They were informed that fire bins are not permitted at this time of year due to the dry conditions. When we visited the site to collect fees around 8 p.m., the young men assured us they would be in bed by 10 p.m. as they were tired. We also requested that another guest contact us if there were any issues. We were informed that the fire was nearly out by 10 p.m. and that the music could not be heard. I apologise if this was not the case, as your pitch was closer, and it clearly caused you inconvenience. As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer you a complimentary stay with us if you are ever in the area again.

Pure tranquility.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet little campsite. No shower or toilet facilities but not a problem as water and electricity hook up on each pitch. Good amount of room between pitches a lake with ducks and a has a small childrens playground if you have young ones. We loved this tranquil site sitting outside in the evening with the beautiful views. Very good price and we will definitely be returning.

Disliked: Nothing, the site is perfect if you want a relaxing base to stay.
