  • Adults-only site on 12 acres of peaceful Suffolk farmland
  • Woodbridge 10 minutes' drive; 20 minutes to Ipswich or Sutton Hoo
  • Dogs welcome; pubs and River Deben beach within walking distance
With easy access from the A12 and A14, plus 12 acres of peaceful natural land to its name, Low Farm Campsite is an excellent spot for an easy escape in a splendid Suffolk setting. This lovely location is part of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, and the owners of the site are doing their bit to preserve the local landscapes by returning their farmland to nature. As part of that approach, the guest areas have been designed to sit nicely in the natural setting, with plenty of space so that you’ll never feel crammed in even if the place is full. The idea here is to create peaceful, simple experiences, and with that in mind the owners have set the place up as an adults-only site with just the essential facilities – guests have access to toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash on site – the area’s footpaths and open spaces mean you shouldn’t struggle to find a place for a good walk (whether you’ve got a dog or not). You’re allowed to set up a barbecue here if you’d like to do some outdoor cookery, but there are also a couple of pubs within walking distance serving up good food for those times when you don’t feel like it. Also within easy walking distance is a river beach on the River Deben, with boat trips available. Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) and Ipswich (20 minutes) are also close by for shops and places to eat.

What customers say

Quiet, adults-only site with great pitches, loads of nature. Super clean ablutions, choice of spots, chill vibe. Walks and riverside pub nearby. Spotty signal and the odd shower queue mentioned.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Shower block and wash up area very nice. Campers let it down when they leave their wash stuff and don’t put it in the bin. Best to shower early or the floor gets a bit mucky from shoes. Great pub about a mile away serving food all day, dog friendly and good views of the water.

Disliked No ship nearby within walking distance.

Liked Good site with nice clean toilets and showers.

Disliked Need to do something about the ants on site. I realise it’s a wildlife area but camping on top of ants nests is far from ideal.

Liked We booked in for a last minute night away and to trial a new set up. The owners were really helpful on the phone when booking and on arrival. The site is really clean, a superb open space to getaway for a peaceful night.

Liked The amazing space, been able to choose your pitch although no pitches marked, great idea. Very good showers. Good atmosphere. Level ground. Quiet. Adults only, great!

Disliked The toilet facilities, having them split. The sinks are very small with no private cubicles. Not a major issue on our stay, as the campsite was very quiet.
Booked on pitchup, it said there were no available EHU pitches, but on arrival we saw many of them free.

Liked Absolutely loved this campsite! We were visiting family nearby for the weekend and just needed an overnight stop, but we really wished we could have stayed longer.

The lady who runs the site is incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The campsite itself is fantastic, with lots of little tucked-away pitches that give you a real sense of privacy. It feels like you're camping on your own, which is so much nicer than being in one large open field like many other campsites.

The facilities are basic but spotlessly clean. The showers are individual cubicles, which gives you plenty of privacy, and there are water points, grey waste disposal, recycling and general waste bins, plus an Elsan disposal point.

There's also a lovely riverside pub just a 20-minute walk away, with a large outdoor seating area. The walk takes you through a quaint village, making it a really enjoyable stroll.

We'd definitely recommend this campsite and will certainly be back!

Disliked Being off grid ( our choice) and not having any sockets in the toilets or shower, unable to dry and straighten hair - not usually an issue but we were going to a party the next day.

Local attractions

Works by Constable and Gainsborough are among the highlights of the art collection at the 16th-century Christchurch Mansion, just north of the town centre in Ipswich (20 minutes' drive). Restaurants and bars line the redeveloped Ipswich Waterfront, where it’s also possible to go on boat trips along the River Orwell. Discovered in 1939, the burial ground at National Trust - Sutton Hoo (20 minutes) yielded an Anglo-Saxon warrior’s boat grave laden with precious artefacts, from an ornate helmet to intricate gold jewellery and gemstones. Most of the treasure is now in London’s British Museum, but there are replicas here, plus a tower to survey the burial ground from above. Fancy a little water-based action? Head to Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes), where you can have a go at paddleboarding, hire a canoe to explore this large reservoir, or bounce and slide on the inflatables at the water park. Alton Water also has a couple of fishing spots, bird hides and viewpoints.
