With easy access from the A12 and A14, plus 12 acres of peaceful natural land to its name, Low Farm Campsite is an excellent spot for an easy escape in a splendid Suffolk setting. This lovely location is part of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, and the owners of the site are doing their bit to preserve the local landscapes by returning their farmland to nature. As part of that approach, the guest areas have been designed to sit nicely in the natural setting, with plenty of space so that you’ll never feel crammed in even if the place is full. The idea here is to create peaceful, simple experiences, and with that in mind the owners have set the place up as an adults-only site with just the essential facilities – guests have access to toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash on site – the area’s footpaths and open spaces mean you shouldn’t struggle to find a place for a good walk (whether you’ve got a dog or not). You’re allowed to set up a barbecue here if you’d like to do some outdoor cookery, but there are also a couple of pubs within walking distance serving up good food for those times when you don’t feel like it. Also within easy walking distance is a river beach on the River Deben, with boat trips available. Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) and Ipswich (20 minutes) are also close by for shops and places to eat.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very peaceful campsite, well set out. Good toilets and recycling facilities. Didn’t try the showers as we were only there for the night. The owners were exceptionally helpful. They explained the route to the pub the May Bush along the river Deben which we walked and which was just magical. The pub was good too - very busy when we were there but we still got a seat. We’d definitely go back.

Liked Well priced, lovely relaxed area. Lovely new looking shower block.
Plenty of shaded areas to choose from.
20 minute walk to the popular pub, 30 if you want a scenic river walk.

Disliked May of been unlucky but tent was covered in ants. It is the outdoors so wasn't a huge problem and didn't ruin the time.

Minimal facilities and customer service. Was ok but wouldn't return.

Liked Shower facilities clean and water hot. Toilets reasonably tidy.

Disliked Didn't see a single member of staff or talk to anyone the whole time we were there. Riddled with ants on our pitch and the same on pitches nearby. Maps water locations incorrect as shown at end of our pitch but was actually three pitches in hidden in trees and not easily sign posted.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very friendly adults only site, great facilities, nice shady areas. Reasonably close to great local pubs - take a bike with you. Jennifer was really helpful and allowed me to move my van into the shade on the hottest days. Very quiet and restful - will visit again.

Disliked Ladies toilets need a shelf to put toiletries on please! Wi fi and 4G was virtually non existent and as a solo female traveller I’d have liked to have been able to make a call if I’d needed to. No shops anywhere nearby - go prepared.

Local attractions

Works by Constable and Gainsborough are among the highlights of the art collection at the 16th-century Christchurch Mansion, just north of the town centre in Ipswich (20 minutes' drive). Restaurants and bars line the redeveloped Ipswich Waterfront, where it’s also possible to go on boat trips along the River Orwell. Discovered in 1939, the burial ground at National Trust - Sutton Hoo (20 minutes) yielded an Anglo-Saxon warrior’s boat grave laden with precious artefacts, from an ornate helmet to intricate gold jewellery and gemstones. Most of the treasure is now in London’s British Museum, but there are replicas here, plus a tower to survey the burial ground from above. Fancy a little water-based action? Head to Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes), where you can have a go at paddleboarding, hire a canoe to explore this large reservoir, or bounce and slide on the inflatables at the water park. Alton Water also has a couple of fishing spots, bird hides and viewpoints.
