  • Dog-friendly site 25 minutes’ walk from Mundesley beach
  • A 20-minute drive from Cromer; 25 minutes to East and West Runton
  • Within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants in Mundesley
There’s no stopping your north Norfolk getaway once you step foot into Alford Barn Camping. A 25-minute walk from the beach in Mundesley, with pubs, restaurants, shops and all sorts on the way, this well-maintained site has rather excellent views of the north Norfolk landscape. The large pitches are within easy driving distance of six popular north Norfolk’s beaches, where highlights include crabbing in Cromer (20 minutes’ drive), spotting seals in Sea Palling (25 minutes) and browsing the weekly market in Sheringham (half an hour). Mundesley beach is the closest, of course. The Victorian seaside village has a miniature golf course, cafés, arcades, fish and chips shops, a petrol station, post office and lots of dog-friendly walking routes – everything you could need for entertainment and convenience, really. There are also local bus routes to Cromer, Sheringham and other destinations. Back at base, the facilities include a recycling point and a toilet and shower block (that’s post-beach rinses sorted). Families and dogs are all welcome on the level grassy pitches. If you want a change of scenery from Mundesley, the nearest town is North Walsham, 10 minutes’ drive away. It has all the usual amenities, such as shops, banks, takeaways, a gym, swimming and a sports centre. Add to that garden centres and a local Thursday market. From North Walsham, it’s also possible to take a train to Norwich city centre in half an hour.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Host was very nice and accommodating, was a nice quiet location.

Disliked: Facilities could be improved, such as creating more of a separation between showers and W/C. The unisex bathroom had a gap in the top which leads hearing everything when using either facility.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Fantastic, small campsite - which as it happens became a positive for us as a more personal service was provided & felt safe. Sunrise & sunset views plus surrounding fields. ☀️❤ Hosts so friendly, John was very helpful. Clean, simple facilities. Space for kids (age 9 & 13) to play football. Only thing, there was a road nearby but tbh didn't bother us as fairly quiet & gate always locked & within sight to check. Thanks for a fab 3 night's stay.

Liked: Everything about this campsite is perfect, it’s clean and safe, great facilities, well maintained, big pitches and it’s only 5 minutes from the beach, pubs, play areas, shops. The owners are brilliant and I couldn’t have asked for more of them. 10 out of 10 and we’re definitely going back.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Their was nothing to dislike about this campsite. The.toilets, showers and washing up area were spotless. The hosts were welcoming and friendly and went above and beyond. The site was central to a lot of laces to visit such has Mundesley beach 10 min drive which has a great beach and plenty of places to park . Cromer was a 25min drive, and Happisburg and sea Palling were about 30mins away. THANK YOU JOHN AND LUCY FOR MAKING OUR STAY SO PLEASANT AND RELAXING.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: John was a fantastic host, he couldn’t have been more helpful. Whether that be the simple opening of the gate, to guidance on local attractions and help with extra resources. He was a friendly face around the campsite and kept the facilities very clean. The area was very practical and safe for the children and dog as all fenced in and prevented any escapees. P.s we’re sorry our dog dug a hole!!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: This was our first camping trip as a family and we loved this site. It was simple and basic but it was perfect. The site was fully maintained with a fence all around to stop young children getting out. The gate was always closed so it meant we could sit by our tent and let our 2 and 4 year old play with the other kids and not have to worry. The toilets and washing block were kept clean all the time and the showers always hot. The owner of the site did everything he could to make out stay as best as possible. He offered local knowledge for things to do in the area and kept us updated on poor weather coming our way. Whilst here we had an awful storm with strong winds. The next day the owner was out checking in with everyone. We broke two tent poles and he came to help us fix it as best as we could.

Disliked: The English weather

Liked: The location, quiet, clean, friendly. Had a last min addition which was no issue, great price.

Disliked: Nothing really. I see shrubs had been planted next to road which will be great next year. Could sell logs on site, could look to sell marshmallows too, would be welcome addition.

Local attractions

The sea’s a splendid setting for all sorts of watersports, but gliding upon the river in Coltishall (20 minutes’ drive) will shake things up slightly. Kayakers and paddleboarders can relax on the gentler water. By this point, you should be full of seafood consumed in Cromer (20 minutes) and have plenty of energy for walking, cycling and fishing at Blickling Hall (25 minutes), a Jacobean country home with extensive grounds. You might spot a seal at Sea Palling beach (25 minutes) or a few dazzling birds along your boating adventures on the Norfolk Broads. Day boat hire is available in Wroxham (half an hour). Beaches you might want to check include West Runton (25 minutes) and East Runton (25 minutes), but leave time for a steam train trip to Wroxham on the historic Bure Valley Railway from Aylsham station (25 minutes). Norwich (40 minutes) might be your final stop. The city’s waterways are excellent for watersports, and of course, there are historic sites like a medieval cathedral, a Saxon marketplace and a museum.
