  • Secluded park in the Norfolk countryside 20 mins' drive from Diss
  • Norfolk Broads 20 minutes' drive away; 45 minutes to the coast
  • On-site pub with pool table and outdoor seating
Sometimes in life it’s great to be right in the thick of the action… but at other times you’ll want to be well away from all that, in a place where you can really relax. If it’s the latter you’re after right now, turn your sights to Waveney Valley Holiday Park, a peaceful haven in the Norfolk countryside. This is something of an ‘out-of-the-way’ location that encourages guests to unwind in the fresh air, well away from everyday stresses like traffic noise. It may be all nature sounds and sights around here, but in fact it’s not completely removed from civilisation, as it will only take you a few minutes to drive here from either the A140 or A143. Similarly close by are the village of Dickleburgh and the town of Harleston, both within 10 minutes’ drive and handy for shops, takeaways and places to eat. If you don’t fancy going that far, you may be pleased to hear the local pub (in the village of Rushall) is just over five minutes’ walk away and has a good food menu as well as all the usual drinks offerings. And if you don’t even fancy going that far… well, how handy that there’s a pub on site too, where you can relax with your favourite tipple, play a game of pool or head out into the cosy outdoor seating area to make the most of the sunshine (hopefully). Other facilities on site include a fully equipped launderette and a clean and tidy toilet/shower block.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Big open space. Outdoor pool is fenced off so safer for the little ones. Middle of nowhere but shops 10min drive. Nice upgrades like fancy brick wall but would have been better spending the money on the toilets etc.

Disliked: Pool not heated so too cold for the little ones to go in. Dog in static home barked non stop all day everytime it saw someone.. Was very large group of teenagers who stayed up drinking and being noisy until very late. Had to remove piles of dog poo so we could pitch up.

From the manager: Hi, most of your comments could have been resolved whilst you were here instead of posting them in a review after you'd left. The dog in the static caravan barking, the group of teenagers drinking and being noisy and the apparent piles of dog poo are all issues that should have been brought to my attention before you left and I was able to do something about it. The pool is an outdoors pool and is not advertised as being heated. There have been quite a few "little ones" in the pool over the past weeks.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Lovely site, friendly place, and felt comfortable staying in a tent here. Friendly and accommodating bar staff. Plenty of washing machines and facilities to dry clothes. Plenty of room for children to play on bikes and other games etc. Overall a very nice stay.

Disliked: Lack of lighting towards bottom end of the pub to the field especially around the toilets and showers. Just to make it feel safer at night time. Would also be nice to have a no dogs off lead policy as one dog came into our tent luckily was friendly. Other issue is dog faeces around the field where dogs have been loose. Other wise really enjoyed being here, we all had a great time and will definitely be back next year!

From the manager: Thank you Lianne for your nice comments. There are plans in place to increase lighting on the park and to instal signs for dog owners to clear up after them. Thanks again, much appreciated

Would be a lovely site but needs updating.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Not much. Was nice to have the family together. Pub on site was cheap but very old. Free pool table. Pub around the corner was lovely and meals were amazing and not overly priced.

Disliked: Toilets were dirty, didn’t have hot water to wash hands and very rarely to shower, limited toilet roll and hand soap. Pool was green, was ensured it had been cleaned but could clearly see it needed a deep clean as was green algae floating around in it. Washing up facilities were poor as the water just came out from under the sink as wasn't plumber in correctly. Once we mentioned it to owner he did go and check this.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I have to disagree with you regarding the toilets, They were not dirty. I clean them everyday and check throughout the day so I know they were clean. If there was any untidiness I would have seen it at some point during the day and rectified it. I can't be responsible for anyone who uses the toilets nor have I the time or resources to stand and wait for someone to use them and check after them. Toilet roll was also checked daily and replaced when necessary. Pool was not green nor was there algae floating in it. It is also cleaned daily. If I had been told earlier about the sink leaking it would have been repaired straight away. We have taken over an old, run down park and are trying our best to bring it back to a standard it should be at. It will take time but we are getting there. The pub has an old 'quaint' look to it which the majority of people like.

Friendly atmosphere lovely location very nice campsite would definitely recommend we enjoyed…

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: That I was with my family

Disliked: No hot water in the washing up facility. Human excrement on the toilet walls. Blocked toilet for 24 hours. No water pressure in the shower. Pool green and unkempt. No park/ play area as indicated.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry to see your comments and you consider your trip this year "appalling" No hot water in the washing up facility. This was not brought to my attention until the Monday when everyone was leaving. If it had of been, I would have investigated and rectified it as I did Monday afternoon. Someone had got into the sealed area where the boiler is situated and, (probably for a laugh), switched the boiler off. I discovered the same had been done at the other washing up station. I did see on two occasions that someone had wiped an excrement filled finger on the wall of one of the ladies toilets. As soon as I saw it it was immediately removed. If I had been told at the time it would have been cleaned earlier. The toilet was not blocked for 24 hours and was definitely working fine when I cleaned the toilets in the morning. Shower pressure will be investigated but was fine when I tested them this morning. The pool is vacuumed out every morning and is not green. The play area has been removed from the listing.

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Entrance to site was closed due to extensive construction work which wasn't declared when the booking was made. The only option to access the site was down a very narrow private drive which sadly caused some damage to our caravan and then when on site we found the area was surrounded by stinging nettles and weeds, the "swimming pool" was very dirty and in our opinion not sanitary, plus the noise and bad language from the construction crew made any chance of us staying not an option at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Mr Clarke. Yes, there was work being carried out on the entrance and driveway which I thought was going to be completed prior to your arrival. Unfortunately, due to a hold up with concrete deliveries work had to be extended. It would have been better if you'd mentioned any damage to the caravan whilst you were here (for the short time you were. An hour or so??). The weeds and nettles you mentioned are on the other side of our boundary but are regularly cut back if they protrude through the wire fence. The area our side of the boundary is definitely not "surrounded" by weeds and nettles. My replies to other comments about the pool will confirm the problems we have had and the work carried out to rectify them. The pool has been extensively cleaned and has, over the past couple of weekends, been used consistently, and enjoyed by all ages, everyday. As for not sanitary, it is tested daily. I can only apologise for the noise of the dumper driving through the field some distance from your pitch but as for the bad language. They were all Romanian and none of them spoke a word of English??

Would definately visit again

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: There is plenty of space for children to play, which was great for our 10 and 13 year old boys. Nice bar area to relax. Flat pitches.

Disliked: I had booked as it said there was a pool.Boys were disappointed when we got there to find a green pool that was not able to be used. We were told that it may be usable over the weekend but that was not the case. If the pool is not in use anymore it needs to be removed as a facility on pitch up. I understand things can go wrong but it would have been nice to be told this before arrival.

From the manager: Hi, apologies for the pool not being quite right and if I'd known the filter and pump were going to break down I would have certainly let people know. We acted as swiftly as we could, getting a pool engineer in to assess the problem and arranging for new equipment to be installed as soon as was possible. Unfortunately, after the new pump and filter were installed, the pool needed a few days to settle down again. This coincided with your visit and took longer than I had hoped. Again, my apologies.

Liked: Location

Disliked: Turned up and campsite didn’t look like photos was told that the pool filter and pump was broken but the PH levels were fine asked to see the pool and it was green and looked more like a pond the showers were dirty so we didn’t end up staying.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, as I explained when you arrived I was having problems with the pool which were due to events beyond my control. we had acted as swiftly a we could in the situation and were having new equipment installed that week. As for the showers, they were not "dirty" and are cleaned every day. I don't, for decency reasons, clean the showers first thing as people are wanting to use them. Better to do it later in the morning when everyone's finished. As you arrived early they hadn't been done at that point.

Local attractions

If the word ‘Norfolk’ is quickly followed by ‘Broads’ in your mind, you’ll want to start with a trip into The Broads National Park (20 minutes’ drive) to explore this spectacular watery landscape for yourself – on foot, by bike or on the water. It’s unlikely that ‘Norfolk’ was followed by ‘wine’ in that word-association game, but that’s also an option if you take a tour of Flint Vineyard (15 minutes). That’s one for the grownups of course, so if you’ve got the kids in tow then you’ll be better off heading to one of the local animal attractions like Camel Park Oasis (20 minutes) or Africa Alive (45 minutes). The coast is a fab option for a day out too, whether you head to the genteel pleasures of Southwold (45 minutes), the thrills of Pleasurewood Hills Family Theme Park (50 minutes) or the many attractions of Great Yarmouth (50 minutes), which has a Sea Life Centre and the famed Golden Mile of amusements as well as a splendid sandy beach.
