  • Family-run back to basics site in the Staffordshire Moorlands
  • A five-minute drive from the edge of the Peak District and Alton Tower
  • Friendly farm animals; free-range eggs available
Put down your roots at Pike Low Farm Camping, a family-friendly farm site in the Staffordshire Moorlands between the historic market towns of Ashbourne and Leek just off the A52. With friendly farm animals on site and free-range eggs available, this family-run dog-friendly site is a good place to indulge in some rural back to basics living for a little while. A five-minute drive from the edge of the Peak District and Alton Towers, you may want to spend one day cycling or hiking across green slopes and the next plunging down rollercoaster drops. Handily, popular Peak District spots such as Dovedale, Thor’s Cave and Hartington are all 20 minutes’ drive away from this site. You may very well catch the farm’s goats, sheep and hens pottering about the site. Other features around the site are kept quite simple, as this is a back to basics site where guests have access to compost toilets and dishwashing areas. So, take in the rural views… and if the scenery is too tempting to admire from afar, there are public footpaths alongside the site and a cycling route too (perhaps you may want to hire bicycles for the Manifold Way at Waterhouses, five minutes’ drive away too). If you’re looking to fuel up first, the local pub is half an hour’s walk away (under five minutes’ drive) and there’s another at Waterhouses.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Pike Low is everything we hoped it would be and more! Stunning open field with almost 180 degree vista. The cleanest compost toilets I've ever seen. Really quiet and peaceful, yet walking distance to the famous and fantastic Yew Tree Pub. Debbie and her family were incredibly welcoming. Our two girls are still talking about how much they loved walking the two goats! If you're looking for somewhere to unplug and totally relax this is the campsite for you.

Liked: Great location close to both Alton towers and Thor's Cave. Very relaxing weekend. The site has only basic facilities but these were clean and well organised, which were perfect for us and kept the site affordable with less than expected other campers. The farmer's wife was really friendly and offered good local knowledge of the area. Plus the fresh eggs on sale were fabulous. Will definitely return.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: I loved the view we had from the campsite. We were surrounded by trees and had a wonderful view of the valley beneath. The facilities were incredible and kept super clean for our stay. The host was really friendly and welcoming, advising us the best place to camp on the field and how to use the toilets and washing up station.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Great basic campsite. Large field, lots of space. Neighbouring fields had cows and sheep in which were lovely to watch. Toilets were great, 2 eco toilets. Washing up bowl with running water and a drinking water tap also for use. They also had fire pits to hire, which looked good, and eggs for sales. The field is quite open to the elements, so be aware if its particularly windy or rainy to pitch near the tree line for some cover.
