  • Small and simple off-grid site at a Staffordshire farm
  • Stoke-on-Trent 20 minutes' drive; 25 minutes to Alton Towers
  • Free-range hens and ducks on site; views over the site's orchard
If you like to open up your tent in the morning and see views of trees and farm animals rather than lots of other tents, take a look at Orchard View Campsite. This small Staffordshire site only has a handful of pitches, so your neighbours are likely to be the resident free-range chickens and ducks rather than a large number of other guests. The other thing you’ll be able to see is the small orchard next to the camping area – still in its infancy but a lovely backdrop nonetheless. In keeping with these chilled-out surroundings, the off-grid site is a simple setup with some outdoor log seating, a cold water supply and an indoor toilet as the only facilities. Keeping guest numbers low means there should always be space to relax in – and the low-key facilities mean low light pollution, and therefore often some quiet special night sky views. The location of this site should be a winner too – it's a thoroughly rural spot with lots of walks around and urban facilities not too far away in either Uttoxeter or Stoke-on-Trent (both 15-20 minutes' drive away). The closest pubs are a couple of miles away, and there are plenty of ways to fill your days – including days at the races, thrill rides at Alton Towers, pottery museums and gin tours among other things.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We love these basic campsites, water, a loo and a flat pitch is all you need. The site is deep in the rural countryside, quite spot, look out for the eggs box next to the gate as a marker. . Really friendly welcome from the owner who has great plans for the development of an orchard on site. There are already chickens, ducks, guinea fowl and lambs on site. The hens and ducks walking past the tents door and exploring around us. Great place would love to use again.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Although the facilities are basic, (no shower block) this site has great views, and bags of potential for future development. Plans are in hand. The host ( James) was friendly, helpful, and on hand whenever required. Surrounded by working farms; cows, hens and chickens to wake you in the morning. If you are looking for this kind of site, Orchard View is well worth a visit.

Disliked: A few more facilities needed, but plans afoot to develop site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Really nice host & I had a great stay.

Disliked: There were only two groups staying while I was there but I had to queue for the single toilet. Ok for my stay but would quickly become unacceptable when there are more people onsite.

From the manager: I don’t understand why you voted my wifi so low to make me look so bad and bring my score down. As it says I don’t offer wifi o well can’t please everyone. Thank you and glad I looked after you so well and made sure your bike was protected. Going well out my way for you.

Beautiful campsite perfect for a night with young children. They were thrilled…

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful campsite perfect for a night with young children. They were thrilled to be among the ducks and chickens and helping collect the eggs in the morning was a real treat. Thank you James. Lovely pitches for each tent, plenty of room and a firepit for everyone. Wheelbarrow for transporting kit was very useful and always lovely not to be surrounded by cars, only greenery and animals. James went above and beyond to make sure we were ok, and would definitely consider again even if we didn't need to be in the area.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The loveliest farm with a spacious campsite set in an orchard with views of the cows and sheep, with chickens and ducks wondering around too ! James made us feel so welcome, and went above and beyond to make us happy. Very friendly and helpful ! He made seating areas out of tree stumps and fire pits out of stones too. Clean toilet and washing/water area too. James also sold delicious fresh farm eggs and firewood too ! Thank you so much. Definitely come again !!

Disliked: Only little: when it’s raining, the ground does get quite boggy so remember some waterproof shoes

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: James is a very friendly man and made us feel so welcome. He had put us out a camp fire ready for us when we had arrived. The scenery is amazing and the fact that you can see and hear all the animals is brilliant! Would definitely recommend a stay here!
