  • Dog-friendly farm-style site on the edge of the Peak District
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton and 25 minutes from Alton Towers
  • Walking distance from watersports and pubs; walking trails nearby
Pining to get away to the pretty Peak District? From Camping at The Hollies, a farm-style site on the edge of the national park, you’ll be able to put your best foot forward and get to walking or biking through valleys, woods and caverns… or mix it up with a meander in some of the park's characterful towns such as Buxton, 20 minutes’ drive away, and Bakewell, half an hour's drive away. The backdrop here is The Roaches – just one of the good spots for hiking in the area. There are more walks accessible right from the site or a short car ride away. While you’re exploring, you may want to pay a visit to Tittesworth Reservoir, just 15 minutes’ walk away down the road and a proper watersports haven. The reservoir also has a kids' playground. Pubs are also on hand to keep up the merry time, including a couple within walking distance. In Hartington, 20 minutes’ drive away, there are village shops, cafés and tea rooms for a coffee and a cake (or two, depending on how far you’ve walked). Leek (five minutes’ drive) or Rudyard (15 minutes) are other local spots with shops, restaurants and pubs. On site, a few sheep and chickens roam around. Plus, a resident pizza van called Pipers Pizzas sells delicious stonebaked pizzas (done in a woodfired oven and very much liked by many guests) every Friday and Saturday from 4pm and on bank holiday Sundays from 4pm. There are basic facilities – on-site toilets (proper ones, not portable-style) are provided, and there are four showers (bring coins for the meters if you want to use these). Firepits are available to hire, but they require a cash-only deposit, and you'll only be allowed to burn wood purchased on site. To make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, quiet hours are set between 10pm and 7am.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Good location for Rock climbing at the Roaches
Good views of the rocks.
Onsite pizza van (at the weekend at least).
Clean toilets facilities with lots of loo roll. Toilet/shower facilities seemed insufficient for the amount of campers on a busy weekend but surprisingly I never had to wait.
Hot showers (£1 for 5mins)
Washing up sinks (but no hot water)
Large site with multiple camping fields.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and for choosing to stay with us.

We’re really glad to hear you enjoyed the location — being close to The Roaches makes us a great base for climbing and exploring, and we’re happy you appreciated the views, clean toilets, and the pizza van!

While our facilities are simple, we do our best to maintain them to a high standard. We're pleased you didn’t experience any queues despite it being a busy weekend, and we appreciate your feedback about capacity — it's something we're always reviewing as the site grows in popularity.

Thanks again for your visit, and we hope to welcome you (and maybe your group) back in the future.

Best wishes,
The Hollies Team

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great location, with pub in walking distance! Pizza van on site which was great. Staff were really friendly, came around regularly to offer fire pits and wood and even take the ash away too! Tip - to get a pitch on the edge with the view of the Roaches, get there early!

Disliked No hot water for washing up made this a little bit more difficult!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We stayed in the second field, and the view of the roaches was beautiful.
More than enough space to pitch up as groups too.

Disliked Toilets were a bit of a walk away.

From the manager: Hi Emiky
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for sharing the beautiful photo of the Roaches! It really means such a lot 🙂

We’re delighted you enjoyed the spacious pitches and the stunning views — the second field is a favourite for many of our guests because of that.

We appreciate your feedback about the toilets being a bit of a walk away. We’re always looking at ways to improve convenience while maintaining the peaceful, spacious feel of the site.

We can’t wait to welcome you back for another visit!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Gorgeous site, nice big pitches, feels lovely and safe. Great views, shops easily accessible. Toilets were clean and showers were hot!

Disliked It's been said a few times, we were inundated by wasps which put a dampener on things. But we are in a field and that is nature!

The road is quite noisy, but that also, can't be helped.

There were a few parties that were loud and raucous into the early hours. it would be good if they have a warden who patrolled a few times to ensure people were abiding by the rules a bit.

The pizzas we had were not cooked properly so not a fan of the pizza van. They made a pizza wrong as well and it was really small, but it took so long to get in the first place that we ate some slices (were starving) the girl indicated that they would do a replacement with the toppings we had requested and implied this was free, but actually when it came the guy charged us a tenner "as goodwill".

I would definitely use the site, but not the pizzas.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing your photos — we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay with us under the Sturgeon Moon!

It’s great to hear you found the site spacious, safe, and scenic, and that you appreciated the clean toilets and hot showers. We really do put a lot of effort into keeping things comfortable and welcoming, so your feedback means a lot.

We completely understand the frustration with the wasps — they’ve been more active than usual this summer, and while it’s part of being out in nature, we are looking at ways to help manage them better.

We’re sorry to hear you experienced some noise during your stay. We do have a warden on-site Friday and Saturday nights to help ensure quiet hours are respected, but we’ll certainly take your comments on board and review how we can improve this further.

Thanks also for the honest feedback about the pizza van — that’s definitely not the experience we want for our guests, and we’ll be passing this on to the vendor for review.

We really appreciate your kind words and balanced feedback, and we’d love to welcome you back again!!

Warm wishes,
The Hollies Team

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Really nice location. The views are beautiful looking out to the roaches. There are walks straight from site, tho the cars can come pretty fast down the lane you aren't on it for long before coming to the footpath. Woodfired pizza served in the evening and breakfast in the morning. Would stay again

From the manager: Thanks so much for your kind words! 😊 We're really happy you enjoyed the beautiful views and nearby walks—it's great to hear you made the most of the pizza and breakfast too! You're right about the lane; while it's short, we always recommend care and appreciate you pointing it out for future guests. We'd love to welcome you back again soon!

I wouldn’t recommend this site due to the limited facilities offered.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Fire pits and wood were available for use, with deliveries made in the evening. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

Disliked The campsite did not have enough toilet and shower facilities for the number of people staying there, resulting in constant queues. There was no hot water available at the washing-up sink. The sinks in the toilet area were extremely small and awkwardly positioned, making it difficult to brush your teeth.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi julie,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

We’re really pleased you enjoyed the fire pits and found our team friendly — we genuinely care about making our guests feel welcome and looked after.

We’re sorry to hear the facilities didn’t meet your expectations. We do our best to be transparent, with everything clearly described and pictured in the listing — including the simple setup and lack of hot water at the washing-up area. We aim to offer a peaceful, back-to-basics camping experience that many of our visitors really enjoy.

During your stay, we found that any queues for facilities were minimal — even during busy times — and we were regularly on-site to keep everything clean and running smoothly.

We understand that our style of campsite may not be for everyone, but we truly appreciate your visit and your feedback.

Warm wishes,
The hollies

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Clean toilets and washing up facilities. Showers were £1 for 5 minutes (could set temperature red hot which is really nice on a cold morning). We made use of the fire pit hire, just £20 refundable deposit then £12 for a net of logs which lasted us the whole night, fire lighters and sticks included too.
Location wise brilliant 10 minutes walk to tittesworth reservoir, which had a circular route all the way round 7.5km ish, had an ice cream shop there which was gorgeous!! Water activities on the reservoir too, booked a double kayak for 1 hour £20 lots of fun. Just a 5 minutes walk left out of the site is a lovely pub ‘Three Horseshoes’ we only had drinks but for food smelt and looked amazing.
Staff here are also so friendly !!

Disliked Only cold water at washing up area.

From the manager: Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for your fantastic 10/10 review! We're absolutely delighted to hear that you and your family had such a great stay with us.

It's lovely to know you appreciated the clean facilities and enjoyed the hot showers – there's nothing like a warm shower on a cool morning! We're also really glad the fire pit hire helped make your evening special, and that you got to explore the beautiful surroundings, especially Tittesworth Reservoir and the local pub.

Our team works hard to keep the site welcoming and well looked after, so your kind words about the staff mean a lot to us.

We’d love to welcome you back again soon – whether for more kayaking, ice cream, or just a relaxing break!

Best wishes. The Hollies 😊

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Beautiful location, we managed to get a great spot with a view of the roaches from our tent. Even though it was fairly busy everyone was respectful of the 10pm quiet. We loved the pizza van on Friday evening, delicious! The campsite owner came around and gave out fire pits and wood to those who wanted. We had a lovely walk at Luds church, which was about a 10 min drive from the campsite.

Disliked The location is lovely but not great for walking straight from the campsite with kids as it’s quite a fast road.

From the manager: Thank you so much for the wonderful 10/10 review! 😊 We're really glad you enjoyed the beautiful views, the peaceful atmosphere, and of course, the Friday night pizza van! It’s great to hear you made the most of your visit with a walk to Lud’s Church too.

We appreciate your feedback about walking routes with kids – safety is really important, and we’ll continue to look into ways to improve that experience. Hope to welcome you back again soon! 🙂

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely spot looking out at the Roaches, plenty of space, good idea having the pizza hut although we didn't use it.
Sinks were higher so no back breaking bending!
Showers were good , was good to have the dressing area ..although very hot in there while dressing
Close to local shops , chinese takeaway
Staff coming round with the wood were friendly and helpful

Disliked No hand towels in the toilets or hand dryers. Had to use loo roll
Loo rolls were always re stocked regularly
Yes hot water at the pot washing area would have been good but wasn't a problem using cold

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice open site with plenty of room to pitch.Fire pits and logs to burn readily available. There was a pizza van there for most of the weekend. The pizza's looked good.Hot showers available cost £1 for five minutes.Plenty of time for me maybe ladies will need 10 mins The Trout pub and Three horse shoe pubs are nearby both server. Very good food.
You are guaranteed to enjoy your stay here.

Disliked Only a few showers served the whole site so at busy times you will have to wait.Suggest going outside of the morn and evening rush hour

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your great review and helpful tips! 😊 We're really glad you enjoyed the open space, fire pits, and the pizza van—those pizzas are definitely a hit! Sounds like you made the most of the local pubs too, which is always a bonus.

Local attractions

In such a scenic setting, you may well spend a lot of your time outdoors … there’s a valley trail and Thor’s Cave in Manifold Valley (20 minutes’ drive) and cavern tours and woodland walks around Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park (15 minutes). Skip over the stepping stones at Park Dovedale & the White Peak (half an hour) or do the loop around Dovedale (half an hour), another top beauty spot. Rudyard Lake (20 minutes) is heavy on adventure too, with an activity centre, steam railway, cycle paths and boat trips. If you’re particularly daring, Madrenaline Activities (10 minutes) runs outdoor activities such as segways, axe throwing and archery. Alton Towers (25 minutes) has many more adrenaline thrills. Family-friendly attractions are all around, including Peak Wildlife Park (15 minutes) and the ice cream farm at Blaze Farm & The Potty Sheep (20 minutes). If it’s a peaceful place you’re after, Bakewell (half an hour) and Matlock (45 minutes) both fit the bill. The former has Bakewell puddings and a medieval bridge and the latter is a historic spa town. Biddulph Grange Garden (20 minutes), a National Trust landscaped Victorian garden, is just as peaceful.
