  • Family-run dairy farm and fishery with views over The Roaches
  • Short drive to Alton Towers, Peak Wildlife Park and Tittesworth Water
  • On-site farm shop and farm animals; 10 minutes' walk to two local pubs
Set on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, Brooklyn Grange Farm is a back-to-basics site on a family-run dairy farm surrounded by gorgeous Staffordshire countryside. The scenery here is varied indeed, with views over quiet fishing pools, grassy meadows and the spectacular rocky ridge known as The Roaches. You'll also be well placed to sample local produce at this small-scale site – you can head to the farm shop, which sells eggs, bacon, sausages, cheese, barbecue meats and other goodies, or grab a local ice cream, milkshake or fresh milk from the on-site Milk Barn. You're welcome to light up a barbecue, as long as it's kept off the grass. If you don't have your own, there are firepits for hire (a cash deposit is required) from the farm shop and kindling and logs for sale. There's also a village pub and carvery around 10 minutes' walk away on the edge of Thorncliffe (with another around 10 minutes' walk away in Blackshaw Moor). For more flavours, try Leek (five minutes' drive), a local market town with a good range of restaurants, cafés and food shops. After a trip to town it's back to the countryside, where you might like to try a spot of catch-and-return fishing at one of the site's well-stocked ponds (for an extra fee, to be booked and paid for at the on-site farm shop; you must have an Environment Agency licence; no fishing available during the spawning season, which is generally in late May and/or early June). You could also take yourself off for a hike in the national park (a mile away), where there are many miles of well-mapped trails to explore. As for facilities, Brooklyn Grange Farm has functional and well-maintained toilets for guests. There is one shower available here (bookable for an extra charge at the farm shop), or you can take the option of travelling five minutes down the road to Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Field was relatively flat which made pitching easier and made for a better night.
Loved the shop and the working farm around us which gave it a nice feel. Facilities were sufficient, clean.

Disliked We had someone come along while we were at the pub and pitch about 10ft in front of us when there was no real reason as there was lots of room. Understand that's not the issue of the site. Possibly mark out some pitching areas to stop this?

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Casual ‘find a space on the field and park in it’ approach. Farm shop with coffee.

Disliked Facilities could do with a refresh. 3 toilets and one shower across 2 fields of potentially over 200 people isn’t enough, causing queues for both.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked The view was amazing, it was a really relaxed campsite. It was great to be able to pop into the shop every few hours to swap my ice packs over. We had no problem with having to wait for toilets and there was no danger of the toilet roll running out!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely scenery, has an on-site farm shop that sells the best black pudding. It's a relatively quiet site. There are no set pitches, just pitch up wherever there is space. Our pitch was flat but there were some on a slope. We stayed in a Tentbox and had no problems. The lake is stunning. Facilities are basic but are clean and do the job - expected for the price paid. The onsite animals at the farm are a great addition, although the donkey was louder than other guests.

Disliked Beware of the loos if you have children. As an adult, I got stuck in one as the door jams. Other guests experienced this too. I had to get my partner to pull from the outside to get me out.

Check in was quite slow (around 20 mins) but this was due to another guest.
