Greenhill Leisure Park: View over the pitches

General

  • Peaceful dog-friendly site on a farm in the Oxfordshire countryside
  • A 25-minute drive to Oxford and an hour to the Cotswolds
  • Fishing lakes, farm animals and river; shop, café and beauty salon

Switch between the pedestrianised alleys of the so-called ‘city of dreaming spires’ and the mellow hills and countryside tea rooms of the Cotswolds… all on the same day if you wish. Set your base in Greenhill Leisure Park, a family-run farm site surrounded by the Oxfordshire countryside in Bletchingdon, within 25 minutes' drive of Oxford and an hour from the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With grinning alpacas and other farm animals on site, this is a real chance to get your rural fix. There are certainly no shortages of countryside pursuits on hand, with three fishing lakes on site stocked with carp or coarse fish, and a nice selection of countryside rambles or woodland walks from the site.

Where to start, with 270 acres to explore on this farm site? Well, first pick a plot among the well-maintained pitches. Next, while away the afternoon with a riverside picnic while watching the canal boats glide by, or head to the carp fishing lake for a test of strength… the biggest fish weigh up to a hefty 30lbs.

Beat any bouts of the tummy grumbles with the shop and bistro-style café on site, plus fresh eggs from the chicken coop. Handily, there are also two pubs within a five-minute drive for a refreshing drink.

Luckily, being on a farm doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style as the on-site beauty salon will keep you looking sharp. Other facilities include a toilet block, launderette, washing-up facilities and wifi. There’s a dedicated grassy area for dogs to stretch their legs, if you’ve brought a canine friend along for the ride too.

Please note

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Onsite entertainment will not be offered due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

A cable measuring at least 10 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

The grocery shop is open between 01/04 et 30/09.

The games room is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Very, very quiet, toilet/shower facilities are excellent, bistro food was brilliant. On site shop sells wine

    Disliked:

The only negative I can see are the bistro opening times, bar closes at 6, food stops at 5, so as we were there for a one night stopover we had to eat early, such a shame as the food is amazing and I feel they must miss out on business closing so early

Our long weekend stay at Greenhill Leisure park with our beloved retro T25 last week was perfect.

We enjoyed the beautiful scenic setting with our friends. The campsite was idilic with ash trees lining the perimeter of each large pitch giving the sense of privacy but also allowing us to enjoy the company of other campers and their families.

As avid fishermen, the men in our group were particularly chuffed with the choice of 3 pretty lakes to choose from, each with easy access. They also came across the hidden river running through the property which was a bonus, especially when they spotted two otters playing by the waterside which caused us some excitement :)

The amenities were very good and clean with lovely hot showers we all appreciated after a busy hot and muggy day.
The staff were fun and very friendly which is always important to us, along with a lovely little shop and pub/restaurant with great food. Very impressed with the pizza, particularly after living in Italy for many years and always disappointed with British pizzas. Of course, seeing the pigs, goats, alpacas and chickens was a pleasure and although we did not have young children with us, it was great to see such a large play area for the kiddies and a little lake for them to enjoy their water sports.

Greenhill Leisure Park offers everything for a relaxed and tranquil holiday and we shall most definitely be visiting again.

Thank you to the staff for such a lovely weekend and see you again soon.

Toilet block could do with more regular cleaning, and maybe more water points around the site. Fishing is extra cost to an already quite expensive site.

Local attractions

Woodland walking is on the cards at Island Pond Wood (20 minutes' drive). Don’t worry, you won’t find a crocodile here… but you may spot more than one or two at Crocodiles of the World (25 minutes). Keep your eyes peeled for more wildlife, including red kites and Duke of Burgundy butterflies, in the ancient woodlands and valleys of Chiltern Hills (45 minutes).

Next, go where the fashionable people used to congregate, at the historic house and gardens of Blenheim Palace (five minutes) or Waddesdon Manor (35 minutes).

At Bicester Heritage (15 minutes), you can delve into a different history, this time of motoring. Or look into the city of Oxford (25 minutes), where grand libraries and cathedrals stand tall.

The same Jurassic limestone that forms the hilly walking district of the Cotswolds (an hour) is on show at the ancient stone circle of the Rollright Stones (25 minutes), another old site to add to the trip’s must-visit list.
