  • Peaceful family-friendly rural site in the Lincolnshire Fens
  • A 15-minute drive from Boston and 40 minutes from Lincoln
  • Top spot for aviation fans: 15 minutes’ drive from RAF Coningsby
Up for peaceful stays full of adventure, exploration and… plane spotting? You’re onto a winner at Bailey Bridge Farm, a family-friendly site 15 minutes’ drive from Boston, Lincolnshire. This is aviation country, 15 minutes from RAF Coningsby and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitors Centre. Airplane anoraks should pack binoculars and settle in next to Coningsby to watch the jets zoom by, nosedive into the history at the Battle of Britain memorial site, or head to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, 25 minutes away in East Kirkby, for rides in a Lancaster bomber. Prefer to stay close to the ground? This is the Lincolnshire Fens, so it doesn’t get much flatter than this. That makes bike rides (the site is located on National Cycle Route 1 from Hull to Harwich), hikes and countryside rambles a cinch for all ages and fitness levels. There are trails to follow at Jenny’s Wood, less than 15 minutes away, while more ambitious guests can head in to Woodhall Spa, 20 minutes away, to join the long-distant Viking Way. When a (relatively) lazier time is required, stick around on site to take in the countryside views or bask in the peace. Round off your day with fresh-from-the-barbecue eats, then settle in next to the campfire for cosy and quiet evenings browsing the farm's fast fibre broadband.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: We arrived in a “monsoon season” in April,Joy and Mick were so welcoming finding a dry hard standing pitch. After breaking down on a day out we were late getting back, there was a hot meal waiting for us. We had 6 nights here with wonderful and generous hosts Thank you both . We will be back xx

Liked: Site owners were lovely, very welcoming and friendly. Toilet was well stocked and very clean as was the washing area. Fab sunset aswell.

Disliked: Nothing really, they have no showers but this isn't a problem at all for a short stay or if you're self contained.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Really friendly owners, greeted us when we arrived and ensured we got to the pitch OK. Because it had been raining heavily for some time, this was much appreciated. The site is lovely and quiet, with flat grass pitches and a nice area of woodland onsite. Ideal for camping and going to local towns. . The toilet was clean and tidy and both the toilet and the pot wash had hot and cold water. Excellent site and we enjoyed staying there.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (motorcyclist, backpacker)

Liked: Very nice little camp site this is, although very basic with having no shower and just the one toilet. However this didn’t have any impact on my stay at all, with me only staying here just the one night.. Plus I’m used to roughing it anyway with me mainly doing wild camping, which this particular camp was very like - with just me in my tent and a couple in a caravan on-site. The owners Mick and Susan (plus Ted, the dog) were very welcoming indeed - and such nice people! I wouldn’t hesitate to return (hopefully when it’s dryer in the summer) here again in the future!

Disliked: Nothing

From the manager: Thank you so much . We do have another toilet at the back of the summer house and Solar shower in the summer . We are planning a shower block in the near future .

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Absolute hidden Gem of a CampSite, very peaceful and felt very welcoming and homely, the owners really care about there customers and have created a home away from home... electricity was consistent and pitch size was great, the facilities they have built were great and very well maintained and provided plenty of toys and games for the children to entertain themselves with... 20 minutes from Boston and 40 minutes from Skegness this campsite is great, we will be returning next year for definite!

From the manager: Wi Fi ongoing hope to be sorted out soon . We have fast fibre to the house but it isn’t reaching to the bottom of the campsite .

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Such a lovely rural site. Laid back feeling, no regimented rows of campers and you can have a large area pitch if you need this. Parking is next to your caravan/unit. The owners Sue and Mick are helpful and friendly. We just needed electric hook up which was provided (10 amp rating). Nice flat pitch for our caravan. Very quiet on the whole (except for the occasional RAF jet- but that's the Lincolnshire Fens for you!). One of the best things was, there was no set time that we had to vacate the pitch by on the last day, but check with the owners. Note: although Bailey Bridge Farm House itself is accessed from North Forty Foot, the access for caravans and motorhomes is via Kirton Drove, hence the Post Code LN4 4QN given when you book. I measured the distance from the B1192 Langrick Road junction onto Kirton Drove on my Sat Nav and it's about 3.5 miles up the road to the turning to the Camp Site, look out for a flag on a short pole and a blue sign with Camp Site written on it on your right and this turning onto an unmade track takes you directly up to the Camping Field itself. We phoned as we came up Kirton Drove and Mick was ready at the bottom of the farm track to see us in. Mick and Sue don't recommend that caravans and motorhomes use the bailey bridge at the front of the house to access the site, but are happy for cars that are not towing to do so - the bridge is quite narrow, has a weight restriction and the wooden sleepers are clattery! Although we were not camping with children it was nice to see there was some play equipment put out for campers use. This included toddler sized seesaw, swing ball set, net for volley ball or similar, goal post and round the corner there was a table tennis table. You can hire a firepit and wood is available. There is just one toilet in a hut, but this was fine, clean, cosy and has a large wash basin with hot and cold water. Next to this is a pot wash shed, with sink and washing up equipment provided.

Disliked: Nothing we disliked, but the final unmade track does need a slow approach and it's about 500 yards up this to the actual camping field. We don't have a four wheel drive car, just a medium sized and quite low saloon and it was perfectly ok. We didn't use the WiFi as we used one of our phones as an internet hotspot (so I can vouch for there beingTesco mobile signal!), so I cannot comment on the WiFi signal provided on site. The site is quite a long way to 'civilisation' but for us that's part of the charm.

From the manager: We do have another toilet round the back of the summer house . Although rural we are only 10 minutes from Tesco , Lidl and Macdonalds.

Local attractions

Start explores with a jaunt into Boston, a 15-minute drive from base, to gape at the (rumoured) highest non-cathedral church tower in the world at St Botolph’s, wander through the free museum, clamber aboard a boat for a cruise along the river, or catch the Boston Belle for a seal-spotting trip to the Wash National Nature Reserve. For a taste of history, there’s plenty to entice hereabouts: the 15th-century moated Tattershall Castle should get things started about 10 minutes away, and Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens and the oh-so-pretty Gunby Hall are within 40 minutes. More intriguing options include the Bubblecar Museum (10 minutes) and the spectacularly decorated Kinema in the Woods (20 minutes), believed to be the only UK cinema still using rear projection. Stick to the historical with a trip to Lincoln, 40 minutes from the site, to explore its 11th-century castle, roam its medieval Bishop’s Palace, glide around its cathedral and view one of just four copies of the Magna Carta. (There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and theatres to venture into too…) Prefer wildlife to city walls? Make a visit to the Ark Wildlife Park and Rescue Zoo for close encounters with lemurs, meerkats, llamas and lizards, or flap over to RSPB Frampton Marsh for some birdwatching – both are 25 minutes from base.
