  • Touring pitches at a 12-acre country park on the edge of Spilsby
  • Close to Lincolnshire Wolds walks; 20 minutes' drive to Skegness
  • Five fishing lakes on site, with bait shop and accessible platforms
If you like to have a fishing lake on site when you’re travelling in your tourer, it’s fair to say that you’ll probably be very happy indeed with a stay at Woodlands Fishery, on the edge of the Lincolnshire town of Spilsby. And that’s because this 12-acre country park is home to a peaceful carp and coarse fishery complex that’s got not one, not even two, but a splendid five different lakes for pleasure anglers to choose from. Owners Pam and Keiran always do their utmost to ensure this is a top-notch experience for all guests, keeping the lakes well stocked with carp, perch, bream, tench, rudd and other species. You’ll need to bring a licence along if you’d like to fish, and agree to the catch-and-release policy; tackle and baits are available at the shop, along with snacks and drinks, and there are accessible platforms so everyone can join the fishing fun. Not into fishing? No problem – there are plenty of other ways to fill your time nearby. The site is on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with lots of lovely footpaths to follow for scenic walks, and there are attractions nearby like the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre or the National Trust’s Gunby Estate. And as Skegness is a mere 20 minutes’ drive away there’s also scope for a day at the seaside. Closer to home, a 10-minute walk takes you to the town centre for shops, cafés, takeaways and the Monday market. Facilities on site include a launderette, a washing-up area and a toilet block with underfloor heating. Touring pitches all have electric and water supplies plus waste disposal.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (no awning)

Liked Layout, views, pitch sizes, proximity to shops, cleanliness of facilities and most of all the hosts, who go out of their way to make sure everything is good.

Disliked Nothing really. If pushed I'd say goose poop, but we liked the geese and you can't have them without the poop :)

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Excellent, clean, well maintained site. Large, fully serviced pitches. Beautiful surroundings with lovely view of Lincolnshire Wolds. We don't fish but fantastic walk around five lakes. Shop, disabled toilet, Elsan, recycling. Five minutes walk into market town where we found several pubs, restaurants and regular buses into Skegness. No WiFi (except near the shop)yet but it's coming soon.
Pam and Kieran, who are so friendly and helpful, have obviously worked very hard to produce this lovely site which we shall revisit soon.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Fully-serviced hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Being a new listing with limited information we were a bit hesitant to book it, so called for a bit more information. Pam was so very helpful and made me feel reassured, so based on that we booked our holiday. I am so glad I did.

On arrival we were greeted by Pam and son Kieron who were great hosts throughout our stay. We were honoured when we found out we were the first official campers to the site!

Its a beautiful fishery in its own right with 5 ponds/lakes but now it has 18 new touring pitches to enjoy a holiday too.

A lot of thought, care and dedication has been put into creating this campsite. There are lots of new shrubs, trees, barrels planted up and hanging baskets all around the site and once matured will look even nicer than it does now. At dusk, the copper structures light up to give a lovely ambience.

There is a ladies (orange theme), gents (green theme) and a disabled shower areas. The ladies and gents sections each have 2 showers, 2 toilets, 2 wash hand basins. The ladies also had a hair dryer which was very useful. There are lots of hooks in the shower cubicles which was very handy. It had a push button overhead shower.

Our spacious pitch had its own water tap, light and electricity supply.

There is an undercover washing up area.

There are 5 mature lakes to choose to fish from with lots of ducks and geese and their young ones to keep you company and amused. You can buy a daily, evening or weekly fishing permit.

Its a 10 minute stroll along the pavement to Spilsby Market town which has a good selection of local shops including a hardware store, gift shop, traditional local ice cream and sweet shop and numerous cafes and pubs. Also has a medium sized Sainsbury to top up on supplies.

There is no need to move your motorhome all week as Spilsby is served by a good bus services including the No. 56 to Horncastle, Lincoln and Skegness which is hourly. Bus No. B4 goes to Boston, Bus 96A to Mablethorpe.

There is a good TV reception. RAF jets fly over which is interesting to watch.

We ate out at the Nelson Butt pub in the town and they served a delicious meal.

Fishing, local facilities and good transport links were the reasons we booked this site. It does what we wanted and more. This is a great site and we will return.

Local attractions

Drive north for a few minutes and you’ll reach the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape, a lovely area for walks among low hills. If you’re more of a stroller than a hiker, maybe you’d prefer a wander around one of the local heritage attractions – with a drive of 10 minutes you can get to either the ruins of 13th-century Bolingbroke Castle (birthplace of Henry IV) or the grander Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens, with walled gardens, elaborate interiors and a rather nice tea room. For a different kind of history, head to Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (10 minutes’ drive), which has exhibits about World War II Bomber Command including a Lancaster bomber. Fancy some sea air? It’s a 20-minute drive to Skegness for a walk along the beach, a go on the rides at the amusement park and a visit to Natureland Seal Sanctuary. A little way south of the town, Gibraltar Point (25 minutes’ drive) is a popular location for birdwatchers; you might also spot seals here sometimes.
