Camping this way

  • Simple pitches at a peaceful Herefordshire working smallholding
  • Hereford 15 minutes' drive; five minutes to the Wye for fishing
  • Family-friendly site; kids can collect eggs and feed animals
Heading to Herefordshire in search of a slice of the simple life? You’ll certainly get that at Primrose Smallholding and Camping – guests here join the goats, sheep, chickens and other resident animals at a working smallholding in a lovely peaceful setting near the little village of Holme Lacy. Book in at this family-friendly site and you’ll be staying in a three-acre field where guest numbers are capped to make sure everyone has plenty of space to pitch up and relax, and for kids to run about and play games in the open air. They’ll also be able to enjoy farm activities like collecting eggs or feeding the goats and sheep. Eggs are also available to buy for a taste of the farm with your breakfast or dinner. To cook up those meals, you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue or firepit (no open or ground fires, thanks, and please supervise children at all times). There’s a tap in the field to provide water for drinking, cooking and washing up; other facilities include a free electric central charging point (with six outlets) and two portable toilets that are thoroughly cleaned and deodorised regularly throughout the day. Heading out and about, there are plenty of walks nearby (Haugh Wood, 10 minutes’ drive away is a favourite) and the River Wye is five minutes’ drive away for coarse fishing, canoeing or paddleboarding. And while this place feels very rural, it’s actually only a 15-minute drive to the centre of Hereford – head there by day to explore the historic city centre or ask on site about the subsidised taxi service for an evening out.

BIG B.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Well maintained flat pitch with very clean facilities. Friendly and helpful host. Turn up, pitch and the host pops around each pitch to check everything & everyone is settled.
My wife and I tend to camp every other weekend with our two pups and have no reservation in calling this the best so far.
We stayed an extra night and booked up for another stay in September.
The sense of calm (when you've pitched lol) is incredibly and sunsets are truly amazing. Close enough to shops, but far enough away.

From the manager: Hi Mark
What great feedback - thank you so much.
I'm delighted you and Jenny had a relaxing time (despite the hot weather when you pitched up). Thank you for extending your stay and I hope you managed to finish carving that wooden spatula! It was lovely to meet you both and your two little dogs were fab. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Take care

Very good value, safe and welcoming place to camp!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely place, really felt secure and safe. The kids played with the games in the shed and visited the animals to feed them in the morning. Really friendly owner who took the time to engage with his guests and made us all feel very welcome!

Disliked Nothing!

From the manager: Hi Rachel

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback. Its great to hear your children enjoyed their stay with us and helped out when feeding the animals in particular. I'm sure Bambi appreciated your efforts to give her a treat when the more boisterous goats usually get most of the goodies!
Hope to see you all again next year, take care.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything!
Friendly host Paul, was keen to share his knowledge and experiences with his farm animals. Us big kids enjoyed as much as the little ones! 😉
Big level pitches, clean facilities.

From the manager: Hi Gail & Grant

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your review. As experienced campers, I genuinely value your feedback and there were several 'take aways' for me to consider based on our in person chats too - not least the importance of retaining the simplicity of the site. I'm glad you 'big kids' enjoyed our little walk around and feeding session with the animals. Our goats said Hi!
I trust you had a peaceful journey up to the Lake District and onwards up north. Hope to see you both again soon. Thank you for visiting.

This was everything I look for in a campsite.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Flat field, excellent, scrupulously clean amenities without any unnecessary amenities that some campsites make you pay for whether you want them or not, kids enjoyed feeding the animals.

Really appreciated being able to park next to the tent, being disabled this is really important.

Very pleasant hosts who are very hands off. Very nice entry method - I like the code entry method.

This was my grandchildren’s first experience camping and they had a wonderful time, and my daughter, who hasn’t been camping since she was a child, was able to chill out too.

Disliked My daughter (who was the one camping) did mention the sound of traffic was a bit intrusive.

We probably shouldn’t have pitched so close to the hedge - it was a bit stony where we were - we were after the shade.

From the manager: Hi Sarah

Thank you for taking the time to leave a thoughtful review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
We try hard to keep a campers experience with us simple and uncomplicated, its great to hear the gate access code worked well and your daughter/grandchildren were able to chill out!
Usually the back road is very quiet but tents sited close to this will inevitably hear road traffic so apologies for this, I hope it didn't impact to much during your time with us.
Take care and hope to see you all again next year!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Amazing campsite. Paul is so friendly and welcoming! Nothing was too much trouble. The toilet and shower were always really clean. The highlight for us and the children was going to see the goats, sheep and chickens at 9am. We absolutely love this site and wouldn't change a thing! We've been 2 weekends in a row and are already looking to book again 😊

Disliked Nothing everything was perfect for us!

It was great to see you Adam and the kids back for a second time. You're always most welcome at Primrose Smallholding! Animal feeding is proving popular and its lovely to see all of the young children enjoying the interaction (with the goats in particular). I thought your pictures were great too, thank you for sharing these!
Hope to see you all again - take care

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We came as a big group and had the best time! The owner is lovely, feeding the animals is a great touch that could have easily been charged for but was free for all the children on site to join in, very well maintained site. Will definitely be back ⭐️

Disliked We didn’t dislike anything the only thing I would change if I was being really picky is just hot water at the washing up point but is more than manageable ☺️

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great campsite with space so it wasn't noisy.
Nice views and signposted well.
Family friendly! There was an even a little toy tractor the kids could play on.
Animals that you could go and see in the morning, the owner was really friendly and informative.
Would definitely want to come again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We spent two nights at this campsite and absolutely loved it. The site is peaceful, safe, and perfect for a relaxing family stay. The owner is a truly wonderful person – he welcomed us warmly, showed us around, and took the time to chat and share lots of interesting tips about the area, including what to see, where to eat, and hidden local gems.

In the morning, our daughter was invited to help feed the goats, chickens, and sheep – she said this was the best campsite we've been to this year (and we’ve stayed at quite a few!).

We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a calm, family-friendly getaway. We’ll surely be back!

Disliked Nothing to dont like

From the manager: Hi Monika
We loved reading your review and thank you so much for taking time to do this!
Here at Primrose smallholding, our campsite is very simple but we try our best to make it a place where families (or indeed solo campers) can sit back, relax and watch the world go by. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to see you again soon. We need your help to feed those goats LOL!
