  • Quiet, dog-friendly site surrounded by Cotswolds farmland and woodland
  • A 10-minute drive from Stroud; 25 minutes to Westonbirt or Cirencester
  • Five minutes’ drive to the local town; walks and country pubs locally
What a place to be, on a family-owned working farm in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with farmland and woodland walks locally. Stancombe Ash Farm is also just five minutes’ drive from the Cotswold village of Bisley, known for its resident author Jilly Cooper and the Giffords circus (under three miles away, with delicious food, animals and circus acts on select dates). With a remote setting, this is a peaceful place for a stay away from the action. There are plenty of footpaths and green lanes around the local area for families to follow. Network routes can be picked up slightly further out for further Cotswolds wanders or cycles over valleys, woodlands, canals and country estates. If you’re ever short on things to do (which is unlikely, with country pubs within five minutes’ drive of the site and a number of National Trust houses, gardens and parks a short drive away), just ask the site. They’ll be happy to suggest new adventures. Otherwise, set up a barbecue on a grill provided by the site (as long as they’re protected and don’t damage the grass or facilities) and cook up any findings from the popular Daylesford Organic (50 minutes’ drive) or Diddly Squat Farm Shop (an hour). You might want to save the little scraps for your well-behaved dog, as they’re welcome here too. The field is part of the working farm, so the other facilities are basic but include a toilet and hot showers for a good rinse at the end of your day.

Local attractions

You'll be sure of a central location at Stancombe Ash Farm, with plenty in the way of walks, cycles and National Trust properties a short drive away. Catch the Saturday market in Stroud (10 minutes’ drive) and explore its designer outlet, peer around the Painswick Rococo Garden (15 minutes) or visit Prince Charles’ estate in Tetbury (25 minutes). For watersports of all sorts, simply head to South Cerney (half an hour). For polo, Cirencester Park (20 minutes) is your go-to. Thermal spas and cool architecture more your thing? Bath (an hour and five minutes) is the spot for that. Your other local towns or cities, for those days where you just to potter around somewhere pretty, are Painswick (15 minutes’ drive), Stroud (10 minutes), Cirencester (25 minutes), Cheltenham (25 minutes), Bourton-on-the-Water (35 minutes), Burford (40 minutes) and Oxford (an hour and 20 minutes). A day’s shopping can be spent at Cribbs Causeway (45 minutes) or Cabot Circus (50 minutes) in Bristol. If it’s more of the outdoors you’re after, the Forest of Dean (50 minutes) or Westonbirt, The National Arboretum (25 minutes) are great spots.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely rustic campsite on a working farm. We were in the Orchard and the children loved watching the chickens. There were basic shower / toilet facitities but the owners allowed people to use their spare bathroom. The owners were lovely and so friendly. They found out the children were interested in tractors so took them to see their tractors and explained all about the crop that they farmed. We went with friends who had never camped before and they had such a great time they have now invested in a tent and camping gear! An amazing holiday!! Thank you to Martin and his wife

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good location with easy access. The orchard field was pleasant. Even though there was a single portaloo, it was kept very clean throughout our stay.

Disliked: The shower facility was just a very small tent (didn't end up using it). Field is next to a busy road so quite a lot of noise from traffic. Website stated we'd have to buy charcoal/firewood on-site, but not sure this was available as couldn't find anyone on arrival to ask.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved this apple orchard site, plenty of space between pitches and room for my camper van 😁 basic but sufficient facilities for the size of the site…only used portaloo and water tap for my needs, didn’t get to see the shower room as someone was in it! Would definitely recommend this friendly and dog friendly campsite and would come back again. Many thanks

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We loved our stay at Stancombe Ash, it fulfilled our needs as a base to explore Stroud and beyond perfectly. The orchard provided level pitching and some friendly chickens (which were very popular with the dog and the children!) Beautiful countryside views from the farm.
