  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Was really pleased with our short stay at the site relaxing after a days racing.
It had everything we need for the short stay

Disliked Pitch is on a slope but it is in a beautiful setting could probably do with more electricity hook ups and can only get WiFi when you are by the club house

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review. We would love to have more electric hook ups, sadly our planning permission restricts us to the ones we have, we review every year & go back to them now & again, hopefully in the future we will have more. The Wi-Fi is based in the clubhouse only unfortunately, the cost to run it to the camp area is huge, many thousand's & we just can't afford to do it!

Thanks for staying with us, hopefully see you again.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked We liked being close (walkable) to Stow, as well as a lovely pub (Horse and Groom) in the other direction. Had gorgeous sunsets both night. Showers and toilet block were v good. There was a bar on site which we didn’t go to but that was handy.

Disliked Not much that could be done about this given the run of super hot weather we’ve been having but the track to the toilet was quite dusty and when cars / vans passed it kicked up, so maybe some matting or similar would be good but it’s been so dry that the dust is out of their control!

Sadly we wouldn’t stay here again and decided to go home a day early.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Fantastic views
Good location for getting around
Good electrics (16 amp)

Disliked The toilets and showers were not clean for at least 3 days.
Bins were smelly and overflowing.
Washing up area was in between the outside drinking area and it was smelly and not welcoming and dark.
No organisation as to pitching onsite and no fire breaks between units implemented. We also didn’t see any fire points around the site.
Generators were being run late into the night and people were loud up until at least 1pm
It just felt like the whole site was unmanaged.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review. We're sorry you didn't appear to enjoy your stay with us. The toilets, showers & wash up areas are cleaned at least twice a day as can be seen from the records kept on the units, & our reviews would suggest they are clean most of the time, it's possible you have used the facilities between cleans or after busy periods & we do clean the units more often during busy times.
The wash up area is under cover & fully lit, with the lights on sensors & is cleaned along with the showers etc. & bin changed daily.

The pitches on the site are clearly marked on the large white notice board on the entrance to the camping field, with names on the electric pitches and making it clear that the grass area is a self service area where you can choose where to pitch.

The fire regulations can be seen in the camping information centre in the clubhouse along with all the other site & local information, our site is fully compliant with the required fire regulations as required by our licence.

The site isn't permanently managed as its not big enough to justify the time for a full time manager, however you have a contact number on the booking acknowledgment, it's also shown on the top of the board in the access to the site & again in the clubhouse on the wall in big font, so if you had any queries help was easily available.

We're sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, we will take your comments on board & make improvements where we can.

would deffinatley stay here again really lovely spot.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Night views from the pitches, staff friendly and helpful, toilets and showers all clean and service well. Pitches are sloping but with chocks we were fine! The club had rugby practice whilst we were here so we enjoyed a pint in the club too. Easy walk to stow on the wold.

Disliked Nothing to do with the club but there is road noise - appreciate nothing to do with club.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & leaving a review.

I think you had the mis fortune of staying with us during the windy spell we had, which blew across the road, 3 fields away which did bring a bit of road noise. We've had some windy days lately unfortunately.. mostly the road cannot be heard from the camp site, however we're pleased you enjoyed your stay, hopefully you will visit us again in the calmer weather!!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Can't thank enough the hospitality of this site even though we we're only there for a couple of nights. On arrival we were greeted warmly and even later when we had an issue with our van due to heavy use over the last couple of weeks, Maria and team did their best to assist us and we were eventually sorted. On top of that the facilities are clean and very reasonable and I highly recommend the site.
