  • Peaceful and spacious motorhome pitch overlooking Carsington Water
  • A 15-minute drive to Dovedale or Heights of Abraham
  • Private hot tub; alpaca walks available and fresh eggs to buy
Waters View was an appropriate name to choose for this Derbyshire site – park your motorhome at this working farm 15 minutes’ drive from Matlock and you’ll be looking out over Carsington Water, with a backdrop of lush green countryside to make that outlook just a bit sweeter. There’s just the one pitch here, so you’ll have plenty of space, peace and privacy for your stay. You’re unlikely to be lonely though, as you’ll be sharing the farm with resident cows, sheep, ducks, geese and hens (who kindly lay the eggs that you can purchase at the farmhouse for a tasty local breakfast). And then there's the alpacas – a friendly bunch that you’ll no doubt meet while you’re here, and can get to know better by joining an alpaca-walking expedition (there’s a discount for farm guests, and it’s a good idea to book ahead by dropping a line to the farm once you’ve booked your stay). This pitch has been set up to provide a comfy stay for guests – you’ll have access to a shower, toilet and washing-up area, and there’s heaps of space for the kids to run around and play games. The views of the water are pretty lovely wherever you sit, but surely at their very best when you sink into your private hot tub after a long walk… Dogs are welcome at Waters View but as it’s a working farm they’ll need to be well behaved and you may be asked to keep them on a lead at certain times (such as during lambing season).

Electric grass and gravel campervan pitch (hot tub)

Liked: Such a lovely single pitch! An incredible view, a lovely pitch with a nice table and chairs and decking. The hot tub was extremely pleasant and relaxing. The pitch was very private and the view was the best ever! The toilet and shower "shed" was very nicely done and we had a lovely stay. I can definitely recommend it!

Local attractions

Carsington Water is the place to start, of course – you can walk across the fields from your pitch, then walk or cycle around the eight-mile perimeter, settle in for some fishing or take to the water for sailing and windsurfing. Alternatively, set off in the other direction to the village of Brassington for a drink in its friendly local pub. For more outdoor time, take bikes out along the Tissington Trail from Ashbourne (10 minutes’ drive) or head into the Peak District National Park for top spots like Dovedale (15 minutes) and Thor’s Cave (20 minutes). Meanwhile, if you’ve got a head for heights you can see the scenery from above on a cable car ride at Heights of Abraham (15 minutes; ask on site for details of a guest discount). Still got some time left over? Try a day out at Chatsworth House (half an hour), ride the vintage vehicles at Crich Tramway Village (20 minutes) or get set for a day of thrill rides at Alton Towers (half an hour).
