Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We love this site. Great view of Thorpe Cloud. The facilities are basic, but that's how we like it. Limited to 25 pitches, making it relaxed and quiet. Ed, the farmer is friendly and helpful. Will go again

Disliked: Was wet most of the week and some parts of the site around the toilets can be slippery

Liked: Ed & Jane are lovely campsite owners! I got a parcel delivered to the site and when it went missing, Ed was very helpful in reaching out to neighbours and getting it back for me! The campsite is gorgeous with stunning views and loads to do around!

Disliked: It was only the weather that made setting up & taking down harder, everything else was great 😊

Disliked: I booked in to car camp but when I got there I wasn’t allowed on the field due to too much rain so had to park on the car park. Wasn’t offered any discount and was still made to pay for fire wood £10 a bag. Then to rub salt into the wounds a camper van and a roof tent turned up and was allowed on the field. Not worth £20 a night plus £5 a night for the dog.

From the manager: Hi solo camper, Unfortunately we could not allow vehicles onto the hillside campsite due to excessive rain. Vehicles can not climb the terrain to get back off and become stuck. If the vehicle is a 4 wheel drive then there is not a problem and we have to make a decision accordingly. Hopefully the weather will turn soon! Our wood prices are competitive when buying one off bundles at petrol stations and bargain stores. Campers are more than welcome to 👍 Bring your own wood 👍 We supply fire pits free of charge. 👍 Free hot showers with room heater (janitorial supplies and cleaning have a cost). 👍We accept car campers, DIY conversions, small campervans. 👍Day visitors who wish to picnic, barbecue then pack up and go. The view is stunning! 👍Picnic benches available 👍 Fishing trolleys available to carry on camping equipment when vehicles inaccessible. 🙏We appreciate your comments and will be adding a Solo camper option to the booking platform which we will offer at off peak times. We keep the pitches to a max of 25 on a 7 acre hillside campsite to maintain a rustic, back to basics experience. Our fee for dogs is maintained at a low price compared to some sites. Our campers tell us we are too cheap and have paid up to £15/dog. Thanks. Ed & Jane.

Local attractions

Historic towns? Terrific trails? Prehistoric sites? Absolutely. For the former, work a visit to the market town of Ashbourne (10 minutes’ drive) or the spa village of Matlock Bath (20 minutes) into your itinerary. For the latter, Hob Hurst's House (40 minutes) is a prehistoric burial mound – and just another addition to a long list of historical spots across the Peak District, including the Nine Ladies Stone Circle (half an hour), Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (25 minutes), Tissington Hall (15 minutes), Kedleston Hall (25 minutes) and the Crich Tramway Village (half an hour). When it comes to trails, there’s a very splendid selection about. Perhaps a 13-mile cycle on the Tissington Trail (10 minutes) beginning in Ashbourne? The limestone gorge and country park at the Heights of Abraham (20 minutes)? The Dovedale (25 minutes) river walk to the Stepping Stones and the Thorpe Cloud? For those who like a paddle or a cycle, Carsington Water (15 minutes) is an attractive candidate. Family-friendly days are bound to be packed with activities there, and the same goes for the family-friendly theme park Gulliver's Kingdom (20 minutes).
