Woodview Campsite

Woodpecker cabin

Lovely dog-friendly cabin; some facilities could be improved.

Sep 2026

Liked We recently spent the weekend at Woodview Campsite and had a lovely time. My mum, stepfather and I stayed in the Woodpecker cabin with our three dogs. It was wonderful to find somewhere that welcomed all three dogs, and the charge of £5 per dog for the stay was very reasonable. The cabin was spacious and could comfortably accommodate up to six people, with a double bed, bunk beds and a sofa bed. It also had a small kitchen area with plenty of cupboards, a microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. There was a large outdoor table, six chairs and a barbecue. The cabin was lovely and warm when we arrived, with two heaters already switched on, and we could easily control the temperature. The campsite itself was peaceful, clean and pleasant to explore. We particularly liked the campfire area, the hammocks and the little stream at the end of the site. There is also a convenient little shop at reception, where we were able to buy milk on Sunday afternoon. Overall, the cabin and campsite provided a comfortable and enjoyable weekend away.

Disliked There was no hot water in the main facilities. The washing-up area, bathroom sinks and the male, female and disabled showers in the main block only had cold water. This made washing ourselves uncomfortable and cleaning greasy dishes and barbecue equipment particularly difficult. When we asked at reception on Sunday, we were told that only the separate family shower room had hot water. This had not been mentioned when we arrived, despite being shown the main facilities. Hot water was then switched on in the disabled shower, and we were able to shower on Sunday. Guests should be told if only certain showers have hot water, but we also feel that when facilities are open and people are staying on site, hot water should be available throughout, including at the sinks and washing-up area. The toilet and shower-area floors were extremely slippery. Additional non-slip flooring or suitable matting would help, as we found this concerning even with very few people on site. It could be more of an issue during busier periods. The fridge was far too small for a cabin intended to accommodate six people. We noticed that a smaller cabin had a much larger fridge, and there was enough space where the Woodpecker cabin’s fridge already sits to accommodate a larger one. During the rain, we also noticed what appeared to be a small leak above one end of the sofa. The mattress was not particularly comfortable either. Finally, we really enjoyed the beautiful little stream near the campfire area. One suggestion would be to cut back some of the blackberry bushes and brambles directly ahead as you enter that area. This would open up the view and make more of the stream accessible for guests to enjoy, particularly when the campsite is busier.

From the manager: Thank you for your comments. I apologise that you were not told face to face that only the family showers and washing up sinks had hot water. There were only 2 families on site and most people prefer the space the family showers afford . There were however 3 signs in the other shower block advising of the hot water provision and offering help if required . The disabled shower will always be available when needed. The family shower block has non slip tiles, and the other showers have non slip matting . Pleased you enjoyed the stream and the campfire area....did you try out any of the activities in the huge games room ?
