Quiet site not really ideal for kids and big caravans

Aug 2026

Liked The indoor pool as it was warm, its was quiet and the site was cleaned regularly. The shop was well stocked with camping essentials and others.

Disliked The pitch wasn't very good, there wasn't a park but the woman in reception kept moaning about kids playing, the lack of space to turn a van around in the site. There was only 2 mens toilets for over 40 pitches and the shower had very little space in them, meaning anything u took in got wet. The amenities have been updated in areas but does some require some updates to the swimming pool as the ceiling is grim, the loos need redesigning to make better use of space and more loos, the washing up facilities could do with moving as its situated with a microwave 2 washing machines, 2 dryers and an iron n board.

From the manager: Daniel, thank you for taking the time to review us, and we're pleased that the warmth of the indoor pool, the quiet feel of the site, the cleanliness and the well-stocked shop all worked for you. On a few of the other points we'd like to gently offer some context, as we think it's only fair to the wider picture. We don't advertise a park or a play area anywhere on our listing, and we never have — we're a small, quiet countryside site, and the families who return to us year after year with their children do so precisely because of that. Our own children live on site and are often out playing with the guests' children during the school holidays, so we know first-hand how well it works for the families who come here — and during your stay most of the children were riding their bikes and playing nicely together, and had a lovely time. The reason a child was spoken to during your stay was that he was running knock-down-ginger between our holiday lodges, disturbing other guests' holidays, pulling up plants, jumping on the fences, and was found taking items out of the recycling bin and throwing them into the field next door. That isn't about a lack of a park — it's about looking after everyone else's holiday, and every other child on site that week was playing happily without any need for a word. If what you overheard sounded like our receptionist "moaning", we suspect you caught part of a conversation between her and me where she was letting me know what had been happening — she was upset on behalf of the guests whose holidays were being disturbed, and understandably a bit passionate about it, because our whole aim is that everyone has a peaceful and relaxing stay. We're sorry if that came across the wrong way in passing. On the swimming pool ceiling: the original roof over the pool is metal, which causes condensation on the underside and, over time, discolouration of the ceiling tiles below. We've been replacing sections of the roof with a fibreglass roof, which resolves the condensation at source — the roof is huge, so we're doing this in increments over successive winters. The ceiling tiles themselves can only be replaced when the pool is closed to guests, which means the winter months. We'd love to be able to do it mid-season, but with a working pool underneath it simply isn't possible. On the shower, toilet and laundry block: the layout is dictated by the drainage runs and load-bearing walls of the existing building, so we can't freely move fittings around. On the numbers, we actually have more showers and toilets than the legal requirement for the site — and to correct one figure in your review, we have 32 pitches, not "over 40". We'd genuinely love to add a couple more showers, but the age and construction of the building means it isn't something we're able to do. On the point about clothes getting wet inside the cubicles, that one we're actively looking at — we're exploring options for storing clothing outside the shower itself, including lockers, and are working through the best way to do it without eating into the space guests need to change in. For a bit of broader context: we bought Wheal Rodney in March 2024, so this is only our third season, and in that time we've already invested over £100,000 in upgrades — including replacing part of the pool roof with fibreglass, a new pool filtration system, new pool pipework, and two lodges gutted and completely redone. Guests who saw the site before we took it on know how far it has come; we're continuing to reinvest every winter, and the pool roof and ceiling tiles are part of that ongoing programme. Thanks again for the feedback, and for the things you enjoyed.

Liked The grounds were lovely, fruit trees around and the peacefulness of the site

Disliked Park wasn't much of a park, just a swing and a small goalie net.
