Scenic campsite good views, would stay again

Aug 2026

Liked Lovely scenic views, grounds and friendly feel to the campsite. Hot water, water refill available and cute washing up shed. Showers were good just small. Loved the goats as well

Disliked Not enough toilets and showers for size of the camspite. Could do with having a clearer dog poo bin. I appreciate the take your rubb8sh home with you and knew this but a poo bin for the doggies would be appreciated. Small details

stayed at much better for the same price,

Aug 2025

Liked Nice hot shower unit that worked well, but should have 1 per field. Level grass. Dog friendly and nice fellow campers. Nice to enjoy the stars as no light pollution. For those that wanted, nice touch at weekend with pizza van and ice cream man.

Disliked Dissapointing that this was a very basic campsite and was not getting the basics right- regular emptying of portaloo toilets at a bank holiday weekend. By sunday night they were all full and monday no chance of using the toilet. Poor rubbish collection option (no recycling just food and non food) and no big bins so naturally people were leaving a mound of rubbish. Only 1 washing up area for 2 fields so always ques for that area. There were plenty of taps but with no area to put your things was tricky to wash at the taps as they were solely there for drinking water really. Simple set up and didn't get much for the price paid.

May 2025

Liked Gorgeous picturesque setting. Nice simple camping. Lovely hot showers and simple toilet block. Nice sheltered washing up area.

Disliked When it got really busy, could do with a few more toilet cubicles to deal with the demand

clean facilities, decent showers, grumpy staff

Jun 2024

Liked peacefulness and closeness to little village with a pub. Hot showers and ammenieties

Disliked the awkwardness towards our group considering we picked this campsite because it said they welcomed groups. Ironically felt unwelcome because we were 'young campers' a group of friends in their 30s . We were judged like we would be really rowdy and we weren't at all. Lots of rules at the campsite, It was windy and there was a free field, i was told i had to go to the 'playing field' with my kite- are you serious! Although we paid extra for extra cars and smaller tents on our pitch, we were still frowned apon

Sustainability of the site, Great location…

May 2023

Liked Sustainability of the site, Great location on the outskirts of windemere.

Disliked Not enough parking and washing up station at the top of the hill, would like one at the bottom too.

From the manager: Thanks for your review. Yes we have a great location which is why we are popular and usually booked up well in advance throughout the season. Regards the parking. We can always park up enough cars for one per pitch but some might not be prime spots by the house and nearest to the pitches. If you're unlucky or just late to arrive and we happen to have mostly car-based campers here, then it's on the grass strip or the gravel parking spot within our property and you just have a slightly longer uphill/downhill walk. There are 10 pitches and we can accommodate, I'd say, about 12 campers cars within our property including the 7 tarmac spaces around our house. We usually have some sustainable campers who have cycled, walked or bussed it to us, which means we average about 7 or 8 cars on site at any one time when we are full. No-one has ever needed to park outside our property because there is nowhere to park on site, even if it's just on our grass. The car park is fairly tight for manoeuvring sometimes when many of our campers have brought cars, but this is pretty standard for the Lake District as a whole where parking is always a problem except out of season, so it's something you get used to. It's especially an issue when campers bring large Transit sized vans with them, but thankfully this is rare. If you mean convenient parking very close to your pitch and all on the flat, then you're right. But this isn't that kind of campsite. We try to encourage backpackers, cyclists, motorcyclists and those using public transport such as the excellent bus service along the A591 and the trains to Staveley and Windermere etc. This is good for sustainability and relaxing pressure on the Lake District as a whole where you will find real parking issues such as not being able to park at all at busy times, or getting an expensive parking penalty ! To be fair, as far as I can work out you were able to park both your vehicles in prime spots in the main car park throughout your stay, in the two spots nearer than any other parking space to the camping pitches. Regards the sink at the top of the hill, this is up there because otherwise the campers on pitches above you would need to go down to the car park area to wash dishes as well as everything else. You were lucky enough to be on the lowest two pitches - those nearest the car park, all the toilets, both showers, mobile charging lockers, freezer and log sales etc and in any case, all those trips back and forth to facilities involve going both up and down the hill in any case so you can't avoid the ascent! I did actually pace it out and it's about the same distance from those pitches to the sink as it is to the toilet block in the car park. It just looks further and its a few metres more ascent/descent. A sink unit by the toilets etc is only going to save your legs if you combine a trip to the sink with a trip to the loo or shower or car, and it's only going to be convenient for campers on the lowest two or three of the 10 pitches. For the other pitches, the current sink is actually pretty convenient. We have thought about putting a second sink in the car park area but it's hard to position it without compromising parking space or the privacy of those using the toilets and showers, and it probably won't bring any more bookings in or improve on our normal 9.7/10 Pitchup rating. No-one wants to be doing their ablutions in peace with someone doing their dishes right next door ! Alternatively one by the composting toilet is a possibility but we would need to cut some trees down for that to make a soakaway and I'm reluctant to do that.
