If you’re already on roll with all your outdoorsy vacation activities and you’re not planning on stopping anytime soon, Joes Valley Reservoir (half an hour’s drive) will keep the streak going. Based in a valley surrounded by mountains, this place is packed with plenty of opportunities for some action: off-road driving trails, hikes through pine hillsides, mountain biking, bouldering and fishing, waterskiing and canoeing on the lake are some of your options. Cedar Mountain Recreation Area (an hour) is another splendid outdoor space further on. Sandstone mountain is the setting, and that means that hikes are on the cards, as well as scrambling over boulders (which kids might want to treat like a miniature maze they can play hide and seek in). Perhaps you’re a fan of checking out the local history of the places you visit. Head to the O'ville Pioneer Village (10 minutes), a handful of cabins that have been preserved from old times. They were once inhabited by the pioneers who built the town communities.
