- Spacious sites on the banks of the Cacapon river
- A 10-minute drive to Green Ridge State Forest; 25 to Berkeley Springs
- Canoeing and tubing available, plus river access for fishing
Stoney Creek Campground is a rural West Virginia campground on the banks of the Cacapon river, about 15 minutes’ drive from Great Cacapon.
That waterfront setting means direct access to the river for fishing, wildlife watching and watersports – you can bring your own craft or hire canoes and tubes after you arrive. If you want to fish you’ll need a license, which you can pick up for a small fee from the DNR website in advance.
There’s plenty more scope for outdoor activity nearby too – perhaps you fancy cycling along the C&O Bike Trail (if not all 185 miles of it…), taking boats out on the Potomac River or hiking your way through the Green Ridge State Forest and Cacapon State Park?
Back at the campground, there’s a whole lot more greenery to give a feeling of privacy to each of the spacious grounds – you should really only see your neighbors when you’re heading towards the bathrooms (which also have a sense of privacy as there’s a dedicated toilet/shower for each site).
Facilities around the park include a playground, a wifi connection and a store selling basics, beers and cooked food to takeaway. The store also sells bundles of firewood so you can use the fire ring grill that’s provided at your site.
