Do you have a fledgling cow-boy (or cow-girl) in the family? You might earn extra ‘top parent’ points when you book a vacation at Silver Bullet Stables, a 20-acre horse farm in south-western Florida, between Arcadia to the north (20 minutes’ drive) and Fort Myers to the south (55 minutes). This is also the place to stay if you are traveling with your own horses, since they have stalls (including wash stalls), a round pen and a lighted riding area.
The farm sits in the middle of the countryside, far from major roads and at quite a distance from the nearest neighbor, too. As a result, it’s blissfully peaceful here – give or take the occasional whinnying from one of the horses or a little bleating from resident goat Willow, whom the kids might enjoy petting and feeding. Your dog is welcome at Silver Bullet, but please note that it should be on a leash while on the campground.
When the kids are all animaled-out (as if that’s likely to happen…), they can exert the last of their energy in the play area, while you keep an eye on them from a hammock strung under a leafy, shade-giving tree. Or maybe they’ll head to the cozy lounge to watch TV or catch up on their TikToks.
The site has a communal fridge/freezer, and you’re welcome to fire up a barbecue. If the idea of tending charcoals doesn’t appeal, there are plenty of dining establishments in Arcadia.
