- Forest glampsite overlooking Lake Hilltjärn in Hälsingland province
- Hassela ski resort half an hour’s drive; Norra Dellen Lake 15 minutes
- Luxurious wigwam with use of a barbecue and wood-fired bastu sauna
Holidaying in splendour close to the Arctic Circle, waterside views and use of a sauna right up your street? Set a course for Frisbo Lodge and Camp in Hälsingland province, where you can languish in luxury on the banks of Lake Hilltjärn.
Your glamping accommodation is in a luxurious wigwam 50 minutes’ drive from the handsome coastal city of Hudiksvall, and set lakeside with a backdrop of pine forest on a private estate. A wonderfully romantic spot for couples looking for seclusion, the spacious tent comes with a cosy double bed, bed linens and comfy seating right next to the stove.
Wood, water and candles are provided, and there is a ‘food cache’ with a few staples as well as cooking utensils that are all free to use. Bring your own provisions to cook on the firepit or gas stove and eat at your picnic table on balmy days. Not into self-catering? Order breakfast and dinner hampers in advance to make your stay at Frisbo even more relaxing.
How to spend your time? Take woodland walks, go wild swimming in pristine lake waters, go fishing, go canoeing, take a sauna in a wood-fired bastu sauna or simply… chill. In summer there is 24-hour daylight, so you have lots of time for leisurely evening strolls; tread quietly and you may see foxes, deer, the resident beaver family, a moose or two, and sometimes traces of bears and wolves on your adventures.

Local attractions
Get a feel for the culture of the region on a visit to the timber-built Hälsingegård Erik-Anders (90 minutes’ drive), one of seven UNESCO-listed Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland with highly decorative interiors. In spring and summer, take tea in the garden café and have a nose around the colourful wildflower meadows.
For local industrial history, the former iron foundry at Moviken Masugn (10 minutes) is open for tours of the late 18th-century blast furnace. Likewise, you can have a look around the internal workings at Strömbacka Mill (five minutes) and the heritage museum at Gränsfors Bruk (40 minutes), where old farming implements and hand-crafted axes are on display.
If you’re visiting Frisbo in autumn, you can join trips to (hopefully) see the spectacular Northern Lights, and in winter take guided snowshoe hikes into the forest or go skiing at Hassela (half an hour), with runs for all skill levels. In gentler, warmer seasons, go swimming and fly fishing at Norra Dellen Lake (15 minutes).
