- Family-friendly site a kilometre from the small town of Cálig
- A 20-minute drive from Peñiscola and Costa de Azahar beaches
- Garden-filled site with bar, bike hire, outdoor pool and kids' pool
What puts the 'orange' in Camping L’Orangeraie? Well, that would be the citrus trees dotted around the site’s traditional stone terraces, mingled in with mature bushes, azaleas and ancient olive trees to give the place a proper Mediterranean garden vibe – and also to provide plenty of shade on warm summer days.
This peaceful rural spot is in a cracking Castellón location, too, just outside the small town of Cálig and around a kilometre from its bars, restaurants, shops and supermarket. Fresh-air seekers will be well served around here, with mountains on one side and the beaches of the Costa de Azahar on the other – Benicarló and Peñiscola are both within a 20-minute drive for seaside days and activities.
Or perhaps you’d prefer to hang about on site for your alfresco times? That’s a plan likely to find favour with the small sorts once they’ve clapped eyes on the pool area, where the main pool sits alongside a kids’ pool with a bunch of fun fountains to splash about in. There’s also a spacious sunbathing area over here, and it’s not far to skip off to the bar for drinks and snacks served on the sea-view terrace. Bag a berth here in high season for kids’ activities and evening entertainment to keep you busy during time on site.
All the bits for barbecues and other meals can be picked up at the site’s well-stocked shop; other handy facilities on site include wifi, bike hire and a launderette.

Local attractions
You’ll get glimpses of the sea from the site, and surely that will whet appetites for getting rather closer… in which case it’s time to pick a seaside destination. Which will it be: beach time and fishing in Benicarló, foodie wanderings in Vinaròs, or poking about in Peñíscola’s castle and historic centre before settling on the sands? All three are within 20 minutes’ drive, so the best answer to this question is clearly to try each one out.
If you like to pack in a bit of history-spotting on your hols, clamber up to Xivert Castle (half an hour’s drive) for a Moorish building with some splendid views, or make tracks for Morella (50 minutes), a hilltop village with its own castle and a fossil museum, along with more of those views. The rural ruins of La Moleta Del Remei Iberian village (half an hour) are worth a stop, too.
Got your eye on outdoor activities instead? There’s a golf course 20 minutes’ drive away, and lots of trails to follow in the Delta del Ebro Natural Park (an hour) where great flocks of birds hang around the lagoons.
