Camping CalpeMar

In Calpe, the Torreó de la Peça stone tower (15 minutes’ walk) was part of the walls built to protect the town from attacks by Muslim invaders and pirates in the Middle Ages. It now houses the Museo de Coleccionismo, with displays exploring local history. You’ve climbed Penyal d’Ifac and taken plenty of pictures from the beach, but if you want another perspective of this iconic ragged outcrop (it is, after all, one of the symbols of this area), you could head to Morro de Toix (15 minutes’ drive), the cape at the other end of the bay. There are hiking trails here, plus an observation point with expansive views of the coastline. If the kids are keen to relive the thrill they experienced when they first watched Jurassic Park, you can take them to DinoPark Algar (40 minutes), where lifesize animatronic models of brachiosaurus, stegosaurus and other fearsome prehistoric creatures inhabit a park that also includes a playground and a cactus garden.
