  • Mountain and woodland site a 10-minute drive from Navahermosa village
  • Cabañeros National Park half an hour’s drive; Toledo 50 minutes
  • Outdoor pool, playground, games room and restaurant; dogs welcome
Among forest-covered mountains, Camping Navahermosa (named after the well-served village a 10-minute drive to the north east) is a top site for visitors in search of challenging hikes in a splendid natural setting or a spot of culture, since it sits 50 minutes’ drive from the UNESCO-listed city of Toledo. That said, this site is also an excellent choice for those who are after a holiday dedicated to doing very little besides taking the family dog for a gentle woodland walk, swimming a few laps in the outdoor pool and sampling traditional local specialities at the restaurant. There are also barbecue stations on site, plus more restaurants (and shops) in Navahermosa village. While the children make new friends in the playground or the games room, the adults gather in the bar for a couple of cool drinks or take in the peaceful vibes in the dedicated quiet area. That’s if they’re not into birdwatching – in which case, they’ll probably make a beeline for Cabañeros National Park (half an hour’s drive), where, among dramatic massifs and lush meadows, they might spot black vultures and golden eagles, as well as mammals like deer and wild boar. The site has an amenity block with communal facilities and wheelchair-accessible toilets with wide doorways, plus washing-up stations.

What customers say

Mixed reviews. Guests praised friendly reception, quiet, spacious pitches with private facilities. Others found it remote, untidy, with cramped pitches. Lovely pool noted, but seating scarce. Staff nice but uninformed. Site needs improvement.

Powered earth travel trailer campsite (Private restroom amenities)

Liked Reception and bar area ok, lovely pool.

Disliked The pitches are like a second world war prison camp. They have a metal frame around them that is only just 3 meters in height so we only just got under. The pool, as lovely as it is has no sun beds or any other seating around so you can swim but nothing else, it was empty. The staff are lovely but didn’t really know what they were doing. The site has potential to be good but a lot of work needs to be done first.

Local attractions

The area around the Hoz de Carboneros waterfall (half an hour’s drive) is laced with challenging hiking trails; alternatively, drive to the Ruta Boquerón del Estena (half an hour) for a family- (and dog-) friendly trek among Mediterranean vegetation. In a deep bend of the river Tagus, Toledo (50 minutes) is dominated by the 11th-century Alcázar, an imposing fortress with four elegant towers. The city’s historic quarter is dotted with medieval former mosques (like the Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz) and churches like the Catedral Primada, with its spectacular interior. The El Greco Museum displays canvases by this 16th-century artist. Outside the town of Yuncos, Cars movie - Epocauto (an hour) displays a well-curated collection of vehicles famously used in (mainly) Spanish films and TV series, though there are also Hollywood-style vintage cars such as a Ford Model T.
