  • Eco-friendly farm site in peaceful rural Aragon
  • On the Matarranya-Algars Nature Trail, an hour's walk from Beceite
  • Farm tours, massages and accessible outings available to book
Mountain views, lots of wildlife, a location on a nature trail and a pretty little medieval town just a few miles away… now doesn’t that just sound like it adds up to the loveliest of locations for an outdoor stay? And if all of that isn’t quite enough, perhaps you’d also like to know that the Catalonian coast is a little over an hour’s drive away as well? The place that has all this going on is El Rebost de Penyagalera, a peaceful site on a family farm in Los Puertos de Beceite and with views up to the Penyagalera mountains. It’s located on the Matarranya-Algars Nature Trail, less than three miles from medieval Beceite and its natural pools. Getting to this tucked-away little site involves making your way down an attractive track through farmland and forest (suitable for motorhomes up to around 7 metres long). Eventually you’ll arrive at the farm, which has been brought back to life by its current owners, who have set the campsite on sustainable and eco-friendly principles. Environmentally friendly measures you’ll see here include eco toiletries, water reuse, low-glow lighting and solar energy (which provides almost all of the farm’s power). Local produce is available in the site’s shop and bar, and guests are encouraged to follow eco guidelines. On top of this, there’s a commitment to accessibility as well, with adapted bathrooms available and tours designed for visitors with diverse abilities. Security is paramount too, with 24-hour surveillance cameras at the entrance. Facilities here include a library, a play area, a paddling pool, and various games including table tennis, darts and board games. Farm tours, doggy daycare and massages can all be booked while you’re here as well.

Power optional grass and earth campsite

Liked: The owners were friendly and welcoming and gave us loads of information about walks and cycle routes in the area. The site itself is small, nestled into the hillside and is totally tranquil with wonderfully dark skies at night. It's well worth walking up behind the site for absolutely amazing views of Penyagalera - the light in the evening is just breathtaking.

Pitches are level and the toilets, showers and washing up area were modern and kept spotlessly clean - as the site was quiet, it was almost as if we had a campervan with a luxury ensuite!

We were on the upper level of the site and didn't have any Wi-Fi and no phone signal - not a problem though as you could just stroll down to the reception/bar area and get good Wi-Fi. This is a site to get away from it all, disconnect and relax.

Disliked: Nothing, except leaving the place.

Local attractions

The Matarranya-Algars Nature Trail runs for about 120 miles, so completing the whole thing might be a bit daunting – but even walking a short section will give you a taste of the gorgeous local scenery. The walk to Beceite (an hour away) is a great section, taking you to the pretty medieval town or branching off to visit its nearby natural pools such as El Assut and La Pesquera. The area around the town is fantastic for outdoor activities too, with options for climbing, horse riding and cycling, plus swimming or watersports at Embalse de Pena (about two hours’ walk/half an hour’s drive). The attractive town of Valderrobres (15 minutes’ drive) is worth a trip to see its castle and other historic buildings. For more days out nearby, look up local wineries, watch vultures at the Mas de Bunyol Observatory (10 minutes) or head to the coast and the Ebro Delta Natural Park (an hour and a quarter).
