What a splendid-looking beach… and all only a 400-metre stroll from splendid-looking Camping Paloma, a site set on the southernmost point of Cádiz's Costa de la Luz – and in one of the most southerly spots in Europe in Spain's deepest south. Camping Paloma is based at the seaside town of Tarifa, known worldwide for its wind sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing, and for its buildings of European and Arabic style: its setting not far from Africa means it has the mountains of Morocco and the lights of Tangier visible across the Strait of Gibraltar. Back at base, the site has a generously-sized pool to splash in, and a playground to keep the kids busy while the grownups prep dinner on the barbie. Maps of the area are in reception and the friendly team can give you all the info you need to arrange trips out into the surrounding countryside. And if you're pondering losing a few pounds while on hol…? This is very much not the place to do so: Camping Paloma days can be started with breakfast at the bar's terrace along with a surf of the free wifi, then, perhaps, tapas and burgers for elevenses, lunch and dinner…? Or you could pick up piles of produce at the mini market, where the offerings include bread and pastries, fresh fruit and veg, and tasty ice cream.

Spacious, shaded sites & clean facilities, with a great pool & shop. Friendly staff are a plus. Excellent for Gibraltar/beaches. Some noise noted, restaurant food was just okay. Management addresses issues well.

Liked We camp there almost every year. Having a pool there is great for windy days, restaurant and mini shop on site.

Disliked There is more glamping now than areas to pitch a tent and one of the few areas to pitch a tent is by the toilets that stink in the evening.

Liked Nice pitch and lovely staff. Pitch was a good size and the shop fairly well stocked. Within easy drive to Gibralta.
We did not try the restaurant. The pool looked very nice and a good place to relax although we did not try it. The beach is a short walk away.

Liked Friendly reception.

Disliked Pitches were quite small.
Guests in bungalows playing load music from their vehicle. ( not the sites fault)
Potential guests need to be warned that’s this site is in the windiest place in Europe as everything was covered in dust & dirt & impossible to enjoy the outdoors.

Liked Showers and toilets were very good. Site was laid out very well. Pool was very good.

Disliked The beach was further away than advertised, there was no public transport and the food from the restaurant was dire. Staff weren't very friendly or helpful and at the weekend it was extremely noisy.

Local attractions

Watersports, secluded beach basks, ancient sites and green gardens are all within easy reach of Camping Paloma, along with a vast range of activities: the reception staff can help you arrange climbing, mountain biking, quad tours, birdwatching tours and lessons in diving, surfing and windsurfing as well as day trips to Morocco. The beach of Valdevaqueros, 400 metres away from the site, is a fave throughout Spain for its surf, and has a beachfront and surrounds crammed with restaurants and chiringuitos for tapas and cervezas after an afternoon among the waves. Other popular sandy stretches like Playa de los Lances and Playa de Bolonia are within a short drive, and the secluded Playa de los Alemanes is next to Zahara de los Atunes, the fishing village famed for its tasty tuna: try it out in one of the many restaurants and bars. Local town Tarifa dates back to the eighth century and has many a sight to see, like tenth-century Guzman castle near the port (most recommended), the sixteenth-century Church of St Matthew built over a former mosque, and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia and the Necrópolis de los Algarbes. Tarifa is in the migrating bird haven of the Intercontinental Mediterranean Biosphere Reserve: look out for storks flapping ahead over the Straits of Gibraltar in spring and autumn.
