  • Cool Andalusia seaside glamping site in Los Caños de Meca
  • A 20-minute drive to Vejer de la Frontera; Cádiz 45 minutes
  • Direct access to the beach, with food stalls and bars in the evening
What a spectacular location for an Andalusia outdoor holiday… Kampaoh Trafalgar is a mere 50 metres from the beach in Los Caños de Meca, a short walk from the historic Faro de Trafalgar lighthouse and with several other sandy stretches within walking distance too. As seaside locations go, this is a particularly fine one, with soft sands, clear water and lots of unspoiled space to choose from. You’ll be able to walk straight out onto the sands from the campsite, following a small lane that’s also the hub of activity in the evenings, when it springs to life with craft stalls, bars and food stalls serving up all sorts of tasty treats for an atmospheric evening by the sea. For other foodie needs there are several other restaurants scattered along the seafront within easy walking distance, and the site has its own restaurant (where the retino burgers are said to be the top pick) and a chilled-out snack bar. There’s also a mini market on site for those who’d rather do their own catering. To help you fully embrace the laidback beach lifestyle, the glamping tents at Kampaoh Trafalgar are in a cool area shaded by trees, and they’re well furnished with beds (and bed linen), seating, rugs and space to hang your clothes.

Local attractions

Getting out for a walk is a good way to get to know your surroundings – and you won’t have to go far. A walk of about 15 minutes gets you to the Caños de Meca archaeological site, with a Bronze Age burial site and the remains of an ancient watchtower. Wander a little further and you’ll get to the Trafalgar Lighthouse (which lends its name to the site, of course). There are several other beaches and coves here too, including the long, sandy Playa Faro de Trafalgar. Elsewhere along the coast, you can sign up to ride horses along the beach from Zahora (15 minutes’ walk), take surf lessons in El Palmar de Vejer (10 minutes’ drive) or seek out seafood specialities in Zahara de los Atunes (half an hour). The seaside city of Cádiz (45 minutes) also makes a great day out, to wander through the medieval streets, climb the Torre de Tavira and visit the cathedral. Heading inland, the whitewashed hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera (20 minutes) is a lovely place for a wander, or there are outdoor art displays to explore at Fundación NMAC (25 minutes).
