Lake lovers: this might be the place for you… Marina Liptov is a 6,000-square-metre site in the central Slovakian village of Bobrovník, right on the banks of Liptovská Mara and with plenty of sporty activities to get stuck into. Guests can charter a boat and go yachting, put some power into paddleboarding or glide about on canoes and kayaks using the gear on offer at this stellar spot.
Bikes are also for rent, so you can zoom past the manicured meadows and wild nature in the marina’s lush Liptov surrounds – or discard the idea of wheels and stick to the site to splash about in the indoor pool and at the lake beach (which also has a shower to rinse off under, loungers to sunbathe on and canopies for shade). Into fitness? The indoor wellness centre and outdoor gym equipment can have you attempting to beat exercise goals whatever the weather.
Unless you’re wanting to laze instead? If so, this stunning park has 360-degree views towards the High and Low Tatra and Chočské Vrchy mountains as well as more leisurely activities like angling in the lake to take part in once you’re feeling suitably rested.
If the fickle fish manage to elude you, plenty of eats are available in the grounds of the site, whether from the casual grill bar on the pier or the à la carte restaurant with a terrace.

Lake swims too chilly for you? Drive for 10 minutes over to Bešeňová to dip into thermal springs said to have health benefits or check out the Lúčky spa complex 15 minutes away to see a pretty milky-blue waterfall and natural travertines.
For hikes, head to the karst-studded Kvačianska valley, in the eastern part of the Chočské Vrchy mountains about 10 minutes away, and follow the red marked trekking trail from Kvačany village to Veľké Borové and Huty to see the ruins of traditional water mills; another walk can be had from Prosiek village, around a five-minute drive away, to follow the blue marked trail towards a waterfall at the end of the Prosiecka valley.
Looking for more geological highlights? Make your way towards the Demänovská Ice Cave, 25 minutes away by car, or catch a bit of local culture instead at 13th-century Orava Castle, said to be one of the loveliest in Slovakia, within 50 minutes.
